✅ Week 1 of our 6 Week Financial Literacy course delivered by the one and only Kelly from .hiddenfigures

We are very fortunate to be recipients of all this amazing matauranga around putea and wealth. This week we learned about Mindsets and disrupted some of the myths and beliefs we’ve grown up with when it comes to money.

Here are just some of the things we learned in our session tonight…. And these are just learnings from my personal perspective ( )

✨ When we introduced ourselves we all had to answer - What are some of our positive money habits? It could be things like “I make my lunch” or “ I automate my bills” or “I save X amount”. It was a nice place to start because often there’s a lot of shame about putea/money as its often been tied to trauma or a struggle to obtain and maintain… heoi anō it was great to share some of our positive money habits.

✨ Scarcity vs Abundance Mindset -A scarcity mindset assumes there is never enough—whether it’s time, money, or success—leading to fear, hoarding, and zero-sum thinking. Conversely, an abundance mindset believes there are limitless opportunities and resources available, fostering creativity, resilience, and a willingness to share

✨ How our behaviour is influenced from whānau, social media, church, culture etc. We had an awesome talanoa around Tangihanga and fa’alavelave. Fa’alavelave is when we have to send money back to the Islands because theres an event at home that requires money e.g funeral, wedding etc.

✨We ended by answering “Whats one belief around putea/money I inherited… and whats one I want to adopt…” My personal belief I shared was believing Debt was not good and to be avoided at all costs. However, I would like to adopt the belief that Debt is a tool and I’m looking forward to learning exactly how to use it.

Next week we are learning about Kiwisaver & Investing and I am so excited for our community to learn! Apologies this class is at full capacity with a waiting list however, we are committed to sharing our learnings each week. If you are keen to learn more we highly recommend following .hiddenfigures and check out all their posts whānau.

✨Thoroughly enjoyed being a judge for today alongside & .

Today we had Business students come through and they were absolutely inspiring.

*POST UPDATED HUI IS ON WEDNESDAY 27 MAY 2026🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Acknowledging the heavy emotions circulating our community right now. Every step we take is a statement.
Not all of our actions will make it to a Canva made post but it doesn’t mean we aren’t active. Love to all those who have put out statements, love to to all those who haven’t been able to, for whatever reason.

To our communities

✨ First - lets all assess our own personal wellbeing and mental health. For our Hawkes Bay whānau If you want free counselling, mirimiri or peer support during this time Email Tammy [email protected] or Refer yourself/another through our website www.neverthelessnz.com

✨ Second - this Wednesday, we meet, we eat, we laugh, we talk, we listen, we cry, we feel, we karakia, we sit in the uncomfortableness of it all. And then… we get organised, educated, plot our paths forward, get a houses in order and then live, heal, overcome and thrive.

We don’t “watch this space”, we “create spaces”. We do it together.

✨ Thirdly - If you are someone who is “for” this Bill who doesn’t understand the detrimental impacts it has on our Rainbow+ community, but is curious or wants to understand - I am happy to have a kōrero with you in person. You can contact me directly at [email protected]

🗓️ Keen to come on Wednesday night - Register here for kai and transport purposes please

🌈 Raindrops Manioro Reflection session. Lastnight we gathered together for a talanoa and reflection session on . Everyone was generous in their sharing and we all agreed on how amazing all of our manuhiri speakers/ panelists and presenters were. Thank you 🙏🏾

✨ What was our highlight of Manioro?
✨ Who inspired us and why?
✨ Suggestions for next Manioro

Here are only some of the highlights from a mix of whānau who have come for the first time and many times.

Apache - “Being my first Manioro I’ve ever attended. It was beautiful. The whole kaupapa right from the start right to the last day. I especially enjoyed .mahmah & Matua Karl (Fuimaono)”

- “Being at the event for the first time as well. I didn’t really know what to expect. It was cool just sitting and watching instead of always being on stage like I usually am. Sharing the stage with the sisters. Getting a special tā moko by the talented .”

- “ I was inspired by the Drag Queens & . Bright colours. It changed the energy inside me. Made me want to get up and join them. I loved it. Suggestion for next Manioro is a “Dragformation” - opportunity to try Drag.

- “Highlight of Manioro was meeting she has been an idol of mine since I was young. I loved meeting her”

All the rangatahi “Bring back the band and bring them on earlier 🤣 ”

Rose .0 “Being on the table with our Kahungunu sisters. Being surrounded with our sisterhood in a way that didn’t include alcohol. Gala food was amazing. This was the best Manioro hands down. ”
