Comms Council is an incorporated body representing the interests of members on issues affecting the advertising industry and agencies. Our Purpose: To champion the contribution the creative thinking of our members makes to New Zealand business and society. The Commercial Communications Council of New Zealand (Comms Council) is the industry association representing the interests of marketing communication agencies. Comms Council has 91 member agencies with a combined turnover of approximately $1 billion, which collectively represent 95 percent of agency billings in New Zealand. Last week, alongside the Marketing Design Collective, we hosted an informative panel event at Saatchi & Saatchi.

This is the second year that we have done this, it was great to once again give students the opportunity to go into and agency and hear first-hand from people working in the advertising, media, and communications industry.

We were so lucky to have Rosalie Basham (Senior Account Manager, One Plus One Communications), Karma Gyeltshen (Account Manager, OMD), Amy Carstairs (Business Executive, Saatchi & Saatchi), and Lisa Motteram (Head of Talent & Training, Comms Council), join us on the panel. They covered everything from career journeys, to interview advice, and tips on how to work with AI instead of against it.

We'd like to thank Kimesha and Amy, for letting us use the space at Saatchi's and to their experience for setting us up. It is so engaging and inspiring for students to see the inside of an agency!

On Wednesday we were at Eden Park, with the wonderful Julie Dormand, who leads our Art of Managing People course.

It was a great day, filled with lots of knowledge and great insights. We hope our 2026 cohort left the course feeling confident in their leadership skills with frameworks and learnings that they can implement within their own teams.

We'd like to thank Julie for delivering the course. She did a fabulous job of delivering such a comprehensive and enriching course, giving our participants a solid foundation of the art of managing people.
