Photography is evolving fast — and James Broadbent has been part of that shift from the front line.

A destination and elopement photographer behind the brand Chasewild, James built his career capturing real-world, fast-moving moments before moving into building tools that change how photographers work today.

He is the Founder and CEO of Narrative, launched in 2019 to help photographers create their best work through AI-driven tools designed for the needs of millions of photographers worldwide. Today, Narrative is one of the fastest-growing AI culling tools in the industry, used by tens of thousands of photographers across more than 160 countries, processing billions of images annually.

At the New Zealand Photography Industry Evening, James shares insight from both sides of that journey — working as a photographer in the field, and building technology shaping how the industry operates at scale.

Join Leigh Schneider at the New Zealand Photography Show 2026, sponsored by Sony.

Leigh is a conceptual fine art photographer from New Zealand whose work explores symbolic, deeply human themes around identity, meaning, and perception. After a decade in Germany, she has returned home, working as both a professional artist and arts facilitator within a large mental health service.

Her work is carefully constructed over weeks and months, building visual worlds that feel familiar yet otherworldly, designed not as escapism, but as a reflection of our capacity to shape meaning and change in our own lives.

In her presentation, Leigh will invite you to think differently about your photography, not just as image-making, but as a way of communicating purpose and identity. She will share her creative process, from idea development through to finished artworks, and introduce her ‘Bird’s Eye Guide’ framework for creating with intention and impact.

You can take the photo. But will it print well?

Fine art printing can feel complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. This session breaks down what really matters when turning your images into prints you’re proud of.

We’ll look at how different fine art papers change the feel of an image, how to prepare files for print, and why printing your work is such an important part of growing as a photographer.

While this is a talk rather than a live printing demo, Rachael Smith will bring along a range of print samples to show how paper choice, finish, and preparation affect the final result. Expect practical advice, samples you can handle and discuss, and tips to help you avoid common printing mistakes.

Topics covered:
• Where to start if you’re not already printing
• Choosing fine art papers and how they affect your images
• Preparing files so your prints look the way you expect
• Why printing your work is worth the time (and effort)
• Common printing issues and how to avoid them
• Q&A

Presenter — Rachael Smith
Rachael Smith is an Ilford Master, photographer, and fine art printer with years of hands-on experience helping photographers get better results from their prints. Known for her practical, down-to-earth approach, she makes fine art printing more accessible and less intimidating, so you can take control of your work from screen to print.
