Fair Food Fair Food is Auckland’s original food rescue charity on a mission to feed people, not landfill

Fair Food collects surplus fresh foods and distributes it to groups who work with people in need across West Auckland. Connecting food business donors with the community sector is an ongoing positive engagement which is strengthening communities over the long term. Fair Food provides a regular source of fresh fruit and vegetables at no charge to local charities. By collecting, sorting and redistributing over 100,000kgs of surplus food, Fair Food has saved 33 million litres of water and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 990,000kgs since February 2012.

Hunger is huge, but so is our community of volunteers, helping feed people, not landfill.

Over the past year, our volunteers showed up 7,180 times, giving 26,192 hours of time to support the community ❤️.

Making good kai count! It’s Global Food Waste Day - a great time to honour the 771,990 kilos of food we shared with our community in the past year, helping 49,015 people with a week’s worth of groceries.

Congratulations to all our tenants who recently received Auckland food rescue charity Fair Food 's Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award.

By giving their time to support food rescue efforts, tenants from our supported housing complex Te Mātāwai gained new skills, built confidence, and helped others in the community.

Food once taken to the landfill is now taking home awards. Congratulations to TStewart , who won the Haku Kingfish Champion for Change Award at the 2026 Cuisine Restaurant Awards. 

Tony was recognised for Fair Food’s Shared Table series, which brings together rescued ingredients and some of New Zealand’s top chefs for an intimate fine dining experience. As a longstanding and respected figure in New Zealand hospitality, Tony has challenged perceptions of overlooked food and shows just how much is possible when we choose to feed people, not landfill. Thank you Tony, for bringing Fair Food’s story to a whole new table❤️🏆.
