Awhi Mai has had an epic week.
We are utterly blessed to have been chosen by
4Paws Pet Care Charity Clinic & Op Shop to desex, microchip , vaccinate and flea and worm 20 cats that have no home… free-of Charge” on Sunday.
We were donated a boot load of cat food, flea treatments and baby kitten formula. The sheer amount left us speechless.
This team of amazing individuals donate all their precious time to give back to the world.
When most of NZ was tucked up in a warm bed Sunday morning at 6.00am the team Pet Care were up and getting ready to head out to desex our 20 cats.
Although trapping 20 cats over two nights and setting them up in our facility at midnight was a massive task for Liz and I we knew that 20 little lives would be changed dramatically.
Homeless, undesexed cats lead horrible lives.
Males as well as females.
This exercise was a lucky save for at least two of the males. One male had a retained testicle which can lead to cancer if not removed.
Desexing males is as critical as females.
Males fight and end up with horrific life threatening abscesses. They also may have as our boy a retained testicle.
Our second little man is only 6 months old we trapped with horrific diarrhoea. We can treat him and hopefully home him.
These projects take a gigantic amount of hard work, attention to detail and organisation of many moving parts.
The volume of litter and food for 20 cats is staggering.
Holding and caring for 20 cats is not easy.
There are a gazillion litter trays to clean as we change these completely twice sometimes three times a day.
We are extremely fastidious about their welfare.
Just because they are community cats they are no different to the cat snuggled up Beside you. They are just less fortunate.
The amazing Mack Girvan one of our foster’s son offered to clean all The disgusting litter trays. How many young lads Do you know that would do this ?
See pics below of him hard at work. His one act of kindness saved me a colossal amount of time.
There gazillion bowls to clean.
Transporting 20 cats up to Silverdale takes volunteers.
Scrubbing crates and changing bedding ready for when they are finished and settling them back in.
Medicating the girls with pain relief the following day.
So we could not have done this without help from my incredible side kicks @ Sheryl Atkinson and Paula Reeves.
This charity is gold.
The team are compassionate and dedicated. This work often goes unnoticed.
