✨ As we approach Matariki, Allenton Kindergarten tamariki have been exploring the stories, traditions and values of this special time through books, waiata, puzzles and meaningful conversations. 🌟📚🎶

They have been reflecting on the year that's been, looking ahead to new beginnings, and are looking forward to preparing the gardens in line with the Maramataka. 🌱

Matariki is a time for remembering, celebrating and coming together, and our tamariki have loved engaging with this special kaupapa. 💙

🌿 This week, Ashburton Kindergartens proudly joined in celebrating 100 years of kindergarten in Aotearoa New Zealand. 🌿

Across our kindergartens, children, whānau and teachers marked this special milestone by enjoying a celebratory cake, planting a native tree, and unveiling a centennial plaque to honour the past and celebrate the future.

For 100 years, kindergartens have been places where children are valued as capable, confident learners, and where strong relationships, belonging, and learning through play create foundations for lifelong success 💛

Did you know that Samoan is the third most spoken language in Aotearoa New Zealand? What an amazing reminder of the diverse languages and cultures that make up our communities.🇼🇸

At Ashburton Kindergartens, we love celebrating the many languages, cultures, and identities that make our learning communities so special. Every language carries stories, traditions, and connections that enrich us all.

The tamariki at Merle Leask Kindergarten share karakia kai in a range of languages as a valued part of their daily practice, embracing the many cultures and identities within their learning community. 💛
