🧸🌿 The school holidays called for a Teddy Bears’ Picnic! 🧺✨

🌈 We got WACKY! 🌈

Although it’s the school holidays, two of our kindergartens are still open, and this Wednesday Hampstead Kindergarten got into the spirit of Wacky Wednesday!

Our tamariki and kaiako embraced the day with wacky outfits, wild hair and plenty of colourful fun while raising money to support children living with cancer. 💛

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved and donated. Together, Hampstead raised $21.20 for the Child Cancer Foundation! 💚

🌋 LOOK OUT… THE VOLCANO IS ACTIVE!

There was some serious volcano-building happening at Thomas Street Kindergarten this week!

A group of our tamariki decided their enormous sandpit volcano needed one very important thing…

LAVA!

So, we gathered our ingredients, made some predictions and got ready for the big eruption. We talked about what lava might be like, whether it would be hot or cold, and what we thought might happen when we mixed the baking soda and vinegar.

And then…

ERUPTION! 🌋

There were plenty of excited faces, lots of laughter and some very proud volcano builders!

Just another day of learning through play at Ashburton Kindergartens, where curiosity, big ideas and a little bit of mess can lead to some pretty amazing learning. 💚

☀️ SUNHATS ARE BACK! ☀️

As we head into the warmer months, our Sun Smart practices will begin from Term 4.

👒 From Term 4, all tamariki will be required to wear a wide-brimmed potae (sun hat) while outside, covering their face, neck and ears.

🧴 Please apply sunscreen before kindergarten each morning. Our kaiako will reapply sunscreen to help keep tamariki protected throughout the day.

👕 Please also ensure your child wears clothing that covers their shoulders.

Let’s keep our tamariki safe while they enjoy learning and playing in the sunshine! 🌞🌿

🐀 Meet Rodney the Rat! ❤️

There’s a very cheeky little character causing quite a stir at Thomas Street Kindergarten!

Rodney the Rat first appeared hiding in a story bag and has quickly become a much-loved part of the kindergarten whānau. From helping himself to cheese and sneaking into the worm farm, to heading off on adventures outside of kindergarten, Rodney certainly keeps the tamariki guessing! 😂

What started as a bit of fun has become a wonderful early literacy experience, with Rodney encouraging tamariki to talk, listen, imagine, predict, recall and retell as they share their ideas about where he has been and what he might get up to next.

We wonder… do the tamariki go home and tell their whānau about Rodney? 👀

We love seeing how a little bit of imagination and playful storytelling can create such meaningful learning experiences. ❤️

Keep your eyes peeled, whānau… because when Rodney is around, you just never know what he’ll get up to next! 🐀
