Eiffelton Community Group Irrigation Scheme (ECGIS) and HHWET have just flicked the switch on a new 120 kW solar array to help power Targeted Stream Augmentation (TSA) for the Windermere Drain. It's a great match, as the low nutrient TSA flow is particularly appreciated by lowland waterways when the sun is shining.

The first Sensoils Vadose zone Monitoring System (VMS) in New Zealand has been installed near Ealing in Mid Canterbury, with multi level suction cups and TDR sensors to be installed over the coming days. The 'Missing N' VMS project compares the effectiveness of these technologies in monitoring nutrient leaching from farming systems and then gathers evidence for nutrient leaching reductions from farm system changes. Thanks to our funders (MPI's Primary Sector Growth Fund, MHV Water, Align Farms, HHWET, Dairy NZ, Fonterra and Synlait), hosting landowners, and local supporters.

February is hosting month for HHWET project sites. A few weeks ago, we hosted Professor Eduardo de Morais (see photo) from University of Maringá , Brazil. Last week it was Irrigation Leaders (U.S.A) and this week it is BEGA farmers (Australia) and senior MPs from the NZ Labour Party (organised by Federated Farmers).
