Keep Learning Mid Canterbury

Keep Learning Mid Canterbury (formerly known as the 'Learning Exchange') is an initiative of Connecting Mid Canterbury Charitable Trust.

We organise workshops and talks, open to all, on a variety of subjects, which helps people to 'Keep Learning'. Get in touch if there's something you'd like to learn and we'll see if we can make it happen. Also send us a message if you would like to teach something in our Keep Learning Programme. We love hearing from locals!

Anyone else dreaming of all the lovely vegetables they want to start growing now that spring is upon us?

TODAY (Saturday 26/9) we have experienced gardener Christine, returning to the community garden to demonstrate how best to plant seeds.

Photos here are of a similar event we held with the Community Garden in April this year.

This time, those who attend our event will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty, planting seeds to take home and nurture.

Seeds and materials provided.
The event is free - donations welcome.

Ko tēnei te wiki o te reo Māori! 🤩 Celebrate Māori language week tonight at Hakatere Marae... with some waiata (singing) and kēmu (games). Great opportunity to experience a taste of Māori culture with local group Te Whānau o Hakatere Kapa Haka & practice or learn some of the language. All ages welcome - no prior Māori language knowledge required. FREE EVENT. 👉Monday 14/9 from 6pm - 8pm.

Ready to Vote?

Head to the Ashburton Library tomorrow (Tuesday 25/8).
Presentations about voting & the elections at 12.30 and 5.30.

Free events - come along and learn about our electoral system, what's different this election, all about voting & enrolment.

In between the presentations, Electoral Commission staff will be there to help you update your details, check if you are enrolled or answer any questions you have.

Cabbage was part of the boil up at our 'A Taste of Aotearoa' class and it's the feature of our event this Saturday - The Mighty Cabbage!

People are bringing along cabbage dishes and recipes to share for lunch - so we can get inspired about new ways to cook this cheap and easy to grow vegetable.

If you're coming, make sure you register!

We love partnering with other local groups like the Ashburton Community Garden to run events.

These photos are from our very interesting DIY Water Harvesting and Irrigation event Kim from Eco Educate facilitated at the community garden earlier this year.

We're kicking off July with a fun Keep Learning event - a WEST COAST SWING DANCING workshop!

If you've seen West Coast Swing dancing reels on your facebook feeds and have been as wowed as I have, read on! (And if you haven't try youtube searching for West Coast Swing Jack & Jill- to see how amazing the *improvised* dances can be).

Thanks to Creative Communities grant funding we are bringing tutors from 'Code 03 Swing' in Christchurch, to Ashburton, to run a half day workshop for anyone interested in giving it a go.

🕑 Sunday July 5th from 2-6pm.

West Coast Swing is a smooth, modern partner dance but you don't need to bring a partner for the workshop - we'll rotate throughout the class so everyone gets a chance to dance and learn together. West Coast Swing is danced to everything from pop and blues to contemporary hits, making it one of the most versatile and social dance styles around.

27 people have already got their tickets but we can take a few more!
