Background

As part of the Government’s decision to increase the annual refugee quota it identified Ashburton as one of five new settlement locations. Contract funding was made available for the development of a new Refugee Settlement Service for Ashburton, Mid Canterbury. Safer Mid Canterbury was successful in its bid to develop and run this service in Ashburton.

We are very excited about the inclusion of these families into the Mid Canterbury community and feel confident that with a lot of positive support and effort we can help make their adjustments to New Zealand life as smooth as possible.

This page will provide the Ashburton and Mid Canterbury Communities with information and updates on the arrival of refugee families. If you would like to support the Refugee families there will be information regarding settlement plans and contact details in the near future.
