🌺 Vinaka vakalevu! 🌺

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Fiji Day celebration! Your presence, your smiles, and your spirit made the day truly special. It was a joy to see our community come together to honour our heritage, share our stories, and celebrate the vibrant culture that connects us all.

A special mention and deep appreciation to the Ashburton District Council for their generous grant, which helped us run a successful Fijian Language Week and bring our Fiji Day festivities to life. Your support has empowered us to preserve and promote our language and traditions with pride.

From the traditional performances to the laughter shared over food and fellowship—this celebration reminded us of the strength and beauty of our Fijian identity.

Let’s continue to uplift one another, speak our language boldly, and keep the spirit of Fiji alive in our hearts and homes.

🇫🇯 Fiji Language Week – Day 3 Highlights 🇫🇯
Mid Canterbury Fijian Community

Today was all about creativity, connection, and culture! 🌺

We dove into the beautiful tradition of mat weaving, learning how Fijian mats (kuta and iri) are crafted with care and meaning. These mats hold deep cultural significance, often used in ceremonies and gifted during important life events. It was inspiring to see our community come together to share stories and techniques passed down through generations.

Then we added a splash of color with tie-dye shirt making! 🎨👕
Everyone got hands-on with dyes and designs, creating bold, beautiful shirts that reflect the vibrant spirit of Fiji. The laughter, teamwork, and bursts of color made it a truly memorable afternoon.

Vinaka vakalevu to all who joined us today—your energy and enthusiasm keep this week alive! 💙

Stay tuned for Day 4… more cultural treasures await!
