The changing face of 🏗️

Since 2011, we’ve been routinely mapping the red-light area of Kamathipura, where our social workers walked the lanes of the area to capture the lived realities of the community.

But our latest RLA Mapping doc isn’t just about statistics, it’s about survival.

With a massive cluster redevelopment plan underway, the traditional red-light areas we have known for decades are changing drastically leaving the most vulnerable, exposed to more exploitation.

Our incredible (Night Care Center) Team!

Walking through the lanes of red-light area in the midday heat, with a simple hope and resolve: to make sure no child gets overlooked, and every child gets access to school, learning, and safety.

Because the weather might change, but our quiet promise to support the children and their right to education stays constant!

Keeping the children at the heart of everything we do 🌱

For our final video in this series, we are joined by Sujith Ail from Dasra to discuss the critical intersection of systems, funding, and family strengthening.

Sujith encourages funders and philanthropic organizations to shift their mindsets. Investing in Psychosocial Support (PSS) shouldn’t be viewed as a secondary add-on, it is a core, preventative strategy. When we fund emotional resilience, we are investing in long-term foundational impact that stops crises before they start, saving families from fracturing and reducing the need for institutional care down the line.

It is time for the funding ecosystem to match the urgency on the ground.

Let’s stop applying band-aids to broken systems. Let’s invest in the emotional foundations that allow families to thrive.

👇 Head to our profile to watch the full series, and share this post to advocate for a more resilient future for every child.

In our next video, we are joined by Aleena Mariam, Program Officer at Butterflies NGO, who takes us straight to the root causes of child institutionalization.

By building deep emotional and mental resilience, PSS equips caregivers to manage crisis without breaking.

When a family is resilient, children don’t just survive a crisis—they thrive through it, and the possibility of adverse childhood experiences is drastically minimized.

🚀 Prevention is the truest form of child protection.

In our next video, we hear from Masooma, a Counsellor at Udayan Care’s FiT Family Strengthening Project. Bringing an invaluable dual perspective as a Care Experienced Youth and a mental health professional, Masooma sheds light on a hidden crisis.

While it is well-known what children in Child Care Institutions (CCIs) lack, Masooma points out that many children living with their biological families face the exact same deprivation. When a home lacks deep emotional attachment, active emotional support, and a grounding cultural touch, it creates an empty void.

Without Psychosocial Support at home, children are forced to look for belonging elsewhere—leaving them highly vulnerable to negative influences and dangers from the outside world.

🚀 Family strengthening isn’t just about keeping a child under a roof; it’s about filling that home with emotional security.

In our tenth video, we are joined by Summi Munir, a Counselor currently working with Udayan Care’s FiT Family Strengthening Project.

Having grown up in a Child Care Institution (CCI), Summi brings an invaluable and deeply personal perspective to this conversation.

Summi shares the unique psychological and emotional challenges children face when growing up in institutional care.

🚀 Every child belongs in a family. Let’s keep working to strengthen families so that no child has to grow up without a home. Stay tuned as we share more expert insights in this special series.

In our ninth video, we hear from someone on the frontlines of parenting: Fatma Malik, a parent from Leher’s programme and a Child Protection Committee (CPC) Member.

Fatima shares her lived experience of how receiving guidance completely shifted the dynamic with her children. By gaining access to positive parenting resources and child protection tools, she moved from a place of isolation to one of deep connection. Today, her children don’t hide their struggles—they talk to her.

That open communication is what family strengthening looks like in action.

🚀 When we equip parents with emotional and educational resources, the entire family system heals. Stay tuned as we share our final insights on the power of psychosocial support.
