In our recent publication, “Beyond The Silence,” we share how building trust, dismantling myths around trauma responses, and offering gender-affirming support ensures every child receives quality care.

Science isn’t just learned from textbooks—it’s discovered when a child gets to see, touch, and experiment for themselves! 🔬✨

To bring this hands-on learning to life, Ms. Vaishali Karande (Project Coordinator, NCC/ESP) and our evening study class teachers recently attended a specialized training by Indrashmi Foundation and CHI on making STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) child-friendly and accessible.

Here’s how we’re turning that training into action at our Night Care Centers:
* Bringing Science to Life: Using simple, everyday objects and special equipment to run experiments, providing hands-on learning for children.
* Fostering Curiosity: Transforming theoretical lessons into hands-on discovery that sparks real problem-solving skills.
* Weekly STEM Thursdays: Launching dedicated, age-appropriate sessions every Thursday across our centers for children in Grades 4 to 8.

Building on what she learned, Ms. Vaishali has already led a workshop with our class teachers to roll out this curriculum—taking a meaningful step toward making STEM engaging, inclusive, and practical for every child. 🌟

An update on our Volunteer Support Group initiative! 🌸

Back in November, we shared our vision of forming a Volunteer Support Group across our centers enabling trafficked & exploited women from the Red Light Areas to lead change within their communities.

Today, this initiative has grown into a powerful network of 22 trained peer leaders across Kamathipura and Khetwadi, each reaching out to nearly 40 mothers.

Here is how these courageous leaders are taking ownership of child protection and community care:

🛡️ Child Protection & Vigilance: Acting as the first responders by identifying at-risk children and reporting potential trafficking risks.
🏡 Linking to Safe Care: Identifying mothers in need during solicitation hours and connecting their children to Prerana’s Night Care Centre for safe, supervised care.
📚 Educational Support: Reconnecting out-of-school children with education and supporting them in studies.
🆘 Crisis Intervention: Swiftly alerting social workers during emergencies, such as a child in distress/need of shelter.
🤝 Social Security: Guiding women on positive parenting, healthcare, child safety, and availing social security schemes.

Together, these women are building stronger safety nets, nurturing brighter futures, and creating community-led change. 🌻

For four years, we walked this journey together—and now, it’s time for a new chapter. 🌱

Recently, we sat with our partners and the community in Vashi-Turbhe, where the Program has worked since 2022 to strengthen families, reduce harm, and keep children from being unnecessarily institutionalized. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

We looked back at everything we’ve built together. We listened. And we heard clearly what the community needs next—continuing to build the capacity of community stakeholders to help families access social security schemes, more men stepping into caregiving roles, and safe, affordable childcare to support women in pursuing opportunities.

These conversations help us understand what has changed, what still needs attention, and how the community can continue to carry this work forward.

As Aashiyana reaches a milestone and evolves into the Prerana Systems Strengthening Program (SSP), we’re shifting our focus—from direct on-ground implementation to strengthening the systems, capacities, and partnerships that keep children safe in families, across states.

Our partners on the ground continue this work, backed by stronger networks, sharper practice, and years of shared learning.

The work doesn’t end when a program ends. It lives on in stronger families and more confident communities. 🌻

This is not a goodbye. It’s a handover—built on trust. 🤝

Children should inherit dreams, not vulnerability.

A child’s birthplace should never dictate their destiny. Children growing up in red-light areas deserve the exact same foundation as any other child:

🛡️ Safety from harm and high-risk environments
📚 Education to build a self-reliant future
🎗️Dignity and respect in their daily lives
🧠 Mental Health Support to process trauma and heal
🌱 Opportunity to break free from cycles of exploitation

Since 1988, Prerana’s Night Care Centre works on the frontline to ensure that vulnerability is not inherited across generations.

Every child we protect today is a step toward a truly just future!
