From Rainwater to Water Security 🌱

When the ground was dry, villages in Ningal, Kutch, Gujarat waited for water that rarely came.

Through borewell recharge, rainwater is collected and directed into the recharge system, helping transfer water towards appropriate groundwater levels. 💧

This can potentially support:

💧 Groundwater recharge

🌾 Irrigation & agriculture

When Rainwater Became a Resource
In Karoda, Mehsana, Gujarat, rainfall brought water to the surface, but much of it was not being stored underground. This limited groundwater availability and made irrigation difficult.
To address this challenge, ANARDE Foundation constructed two recharge borewells in 2024–25, creating a pathway for excess rainwater to move underground and support groundwater recharge.
By improving the availability of groundwater, the initiative contributes to strengthening the foundation for sustainable irrigation and rural livelihoods.
Water conservation is not only about saving water today. It is about creating the conditions for greater water security tomorrow.

Better school infrastructure is not just about buildings. It creates a safer, cleaner and more dignified environment for girls to learn and grow.

At the Primary Girls School, Jagudan, Mehsana, Gujarat, ANARDE Foundation supported the improvement of essential school infrastructure for 250+ girls and staff.

The intervention included a dedicated girls’ sanitation facility with 3 toilets, 1 urinal and a wash basin, along with a dedicated Mid-Day Meal Shed for shared meals.

The intervention included:

The project responds to a basic but important need: providing school spaces that are better suited to the everyday requirements of students.

The impact goes beyond infrastructure — supporting better hygiene, greater dignity and better attendance.

When essential spaces are improved, they can create meaningful differences in children’s everyday school experience.

Eight years ago, a simple scoop of earth changed the trajectory of an entire village. 💧

When the ANARDE Foundation set out to deepen a local pond in Dingucha (Mehsana, Gujarat) back in 2018, the goal was straightforward: capture more monsoon runoff. But water has a way of multiplying impact far beyond its physical boundaries.

What started as an excavation project evolved into a vital lifeline. By expanding the pond's capacity, we didn't just store more water—we recharged the local aquifer, secured irrigation for surrounding farmland, sustained livestock through dry spells, and invited local biodiversity back to the region.

Nearly a decade later, that single water body is still doing the heavy lifting for the community.

True sustainable development isn't about constant, noisy interventions. It’s about building quiet, resilient solutions designed to outlast the project cycle.

Sometimes, the most impactful sustainable solution isn't building new infrastructure—it's restoring existing water assets. 🛠️💧

Accumulated silt often reduces a water body's capacity over time. To tackle this, ANARDE Foundation spearheaded a check dam rejuvenation and nala desilting drive in Kharivali, Khalapur, Raigad (Maharashtra).

Removing accumulated silt and rejuvenating the check dam has restored its water-holding capacity, supported groundwater recharge, and improved water availability for domestic and agricultural needs, strengthening the community’s water security for the months ahead.

Building a sustainable tomorrow, one restored asset at a time. 🌿
