Today’s Pride Parade in Tel Aviv is about much more than a colorful celebration. It is one of the clearest expressions of a liberal Judaism that believes in freedom, equality, and acceptance.

To be “a free people in our land” means building a society where every person has a safe place to be exactly who they are. At a time when voices calling to roll back equality are becoming louder, sometimes even from within the government, this parade is a powerful response.

This is a Zionism that celebrates love, embraces others, and believes in a public space that belongs to everyone.

Happy Pride Month!

מצעד הגאווה שיצא היום לדרך בתל אביב, הוא הרבה מעבר למסיבה צבעונית - הוא אחד הביטויים היפים ביותר של היהדות הליברלית והחופשית.

להיות עם חופשי בארצנו אומר שלכל אחד ואחת יש מקום בטוח להיות בדיוק מי שהם. בימים שבהם נשמעים קולות חשוכים, לעיתים גם מתוך הממשלה, המבקשים להחזיר אותנו אחורה ולפגוע בשוויון - המצעד הזה הוא תשובה מוחצת. זוהי ציונות שחוגגת אהבה, קבלת האחר, ומרחב ציבורי ששייך לכולם.

Remember how we used to navigate before Waze? Neither do we.

Today marks 13 years since Google acquired the Israeli app Waze in a nearly $1 billion deal. What started in 2006 as a small community mapping project created by Ehud Shabtai, originally called “The Free Map of Israel,” became the app that changed the way hundreds of millions of people navigate the world.

Waze is proof that the greatest resource of modern Zionism has always been its people. The creativity, the initiative, the chutzpah, and the ability to think beyond the obvious.

זוכרים איך ניווטנו לפני ווייז? אנחנו בקושי. היום לפני 13 שנים, גוגל רכשה את אפליקציית Waze הישראלית בסכום דמיוני של כמעט מיליארד דולר. מה שהתחיל ב-2006 כמיזם קהילתי קטן של אהוד שבתאי ("פרויקט המיפוי החופשי של ישראל"), הפך לאפליקציה ששינתה את הדרך שבה מאות מיליוני אנשים בעולם נוהגים.

ווייז היא ההוכחה שהמשאב הכי גדול של הציונות המודרנית הוא ההון האנושי שלנו. היזמות, החוצפה החיובית והיכולת לחשוב מחוץ לקופסה.

11 bridges. One night of extraordinary courage.

On the night of June 17, 1946, Palmach fighters carried out one of the boldest operations of the pre-state era: the simultaneous destruction of 11 bridges along the borders of Mandatory Palestine, in what became known as the “Night of the Bridges.”

The operation disrupted British supply routes, but it also sent a clear message to the world: the Jewish Yishuv was determined to fight for its independence, and to do so together.
Beyond its military legacy, the Night of the Bridges still stands as a reminder of what can happen when people unite around a shared purpose, plan together, and find the courage to act for a greater vision.

11 גשרים, לילה אחד של אומץ לב.
בליל י"ח בסיוון תש"ו (1946), יצאו לוחמי הפלמ"ח לפעולה נועזת ומתואמת: פיצוץ 11 גשרים בו-זמנית בכל גבולות הארץ, בפעולה שנודעה בשם "ליל הגשרים".

המבצע ההירואי לא רק ניתק את נתיבי האספקה של הבריטים, אלא גם העביר מסר מהדהד לעולם: היישוב היהודי כאן כדי להיאבק על עצמאותו, והוא עושה זאת יחד. מעבר למורשת הקרב, ליל הגשרים מזכיר לנו מה אפשר להשיג כשיש מטרה משותפת, תכנון מדויק, ואומץ לפעול למען חזון גדול.

On May 28, 1999, after 31 years of mystery, the wreck of the INS Dakar was finally located on the seafloor, along its route to Haifa.

The Dakar was an Israeli Navy submarine that sank on January 25, 1968, on its journey from Britain to Israel. All 69 crew members were lost.

The discovery did not bring them back, but it gave their families, and the entire country, a moment of closure.

ב-28 במאי 1999, לאחר 31 שנות תעלומה, נמצאו שרידיה של הצוללת אח"י דקר בקרקעית הים, על נתיב השיט לחיפה.

אח"י דַּקָּר הייתה צוללת בשירות חיל הים הישראלי, שטבעה בכ"ד בטבת תשכ"ח, 25.1.1968, בדרכה מבריטניה לישראל, וכל 69 אנשי צוותה נספו.

מציאת הצוללת לא החזירה את הבנים, אבל היא העניקה למשפחות ולמדינה כולה רגע של סגירת מעגל.

Shavuot (6th of Sivan) marks the giving of the Torah, and the agricultural festival of first fruits.

In liberal Judaism, the giving of the Torah is not just a moment in the past. It’s an ongoing process. Tikkun Leil Shavuot is a chance to come together, learn, debate, and bring new meaning into the Jewish bookshelf.

It’s also a holiday that reminds us, through the story of Ruth, that Judaism has always been open and welcoming, drawing strength from those who chose to join it.
