What most moved me at my son's wedding was the agreement he signed. An agreement to prevent Aginut.
Some people think that one shouldn't speak of such things at happy moments. I think quite the opposite.
As an Agunah for over twenty years, I know what happens when one person can hold another's freedom. I know how much pain, helplessness and violence can grow out of such a situation.
When my son chose to sign an agreement preventing Aginut, I felt that he understood that love is not only an emotion. Love is also responsibility. It is the ability to care for the future of the person you are with, even in moments when everything seems perfect.
I stood there feeling a great pride. My children had grown up understanding what healthy love is, and what respect and freedom within a relationship mean.
I look at my family and I feel hope. Despite everything we have been through and are still going through, we have managed to grow. In my home today there is so much love. Not "love" of power and control. Love of respect, responsibility and freedom.
So happy Tu B'Av.
If you have not yet signed an agreement preventing Aginut, I strongly urge you to do so today. There is no greater celebration of love than this.
