πŸ—³οΈ Democracy in action – and it’s a beautiful thing to witness.

At our 2026 AGM, members came together to vote on motions and shape the future of education. But some of the most powerful moments came from our second-level students, who didn't just attend β€” they led.

As our Chair Emma Lane-Spollen said: β€œWe are living through a period of profound global instability... but what we teach, model and discuss about ethics, equality, democracy and human rights plays a vital role.”

This is what it looks like when an ethos of equality and respectful partnership isn’t just a poster on the wall – it’s how we work.

What exactly is Ethical Education? πŸ€”

In Educate Together schools here in Ireland, it’s not just an add-onβ€”it’s a core part of the school day. From primary (Learn Together Curriculum) to second-level (Ethical Education Curriculum), students are given the space to critically reflect on the world around them.

We’re talking real, meaningful conversations about equality, justice, sustainability, and what it means to be an active citizen βš–οΈ 🌍

It’s been well over three years since a new Educate Together school opened in Ireland. Meanwhile, demand for equality-based education has never been higher.

Six counties still have no Educate Together school at all:
πŸ“ Cavan
πŸ“ Monaghan
πŸ“ Leitrim
πŸ“ Longford
πŸ“ Roscommon
πŸ“ Tipperary

That means families in these areas who want a child-centred, equality-based model for their children simply don’t have that choice.

The good news? Communities are ready. Demand is growing. And together, we can change this.

So … what exactly is Aitheantas? πŸ€”

We're so glad you asked!

Aitheantas is a brand-new Framework that helps higher education institutions strengthen teacher education programmes in Ethical, Multi-Belief and Values Education (EMBVE).

It means future primary teachers will be better prepared to teach in multi-denominational and equality-based schools.

And yes – the name Aitheantas is Irish for recognition or identity. That's exactly what this is about: recognising the skills teachers need for a diverse Ireland ☘️ 🌍

🌟 Over 50 years of change β€” and it started with one school!

Meet Áine Hyland, a founder member of the very first Educate Together school – the Dalkey School Project. Over 50 years ago, a group of parents saw a need for a place where children of all religions and none could learn side by side, with equal rights of access βš–οΈ

Now, she’s β€œabsolutely delighted” to see how Educate Together has grown – but the demand is still rising πŸ“ˆ
