A very distressing rescue today. We got an email from a lovely lady today from dunmanway very upset as they could see a poor cygnet seemingly caught in something in the water unable to escape. Wouldn't you know it....it was fishing line... π₯²
Imagine being a new baby navigating the world and then caught by something in the water and not being able to get to your mom and dad...π
On this occasion however our literal saint of a volunteer Yasmin and Aga who is with me for years, grabbed the kayaks and got down to the little bug. Managed to free him, luckily no damage was done to the leg and he was released back to his parents. Super well done ladies.
They cut as much fishing line as they could out of the water. The dangers we create for wildlife is so sad.
The finder feeds the swans everyday so they will be monitored closely and get a big feed tomorrow. Glad there was a happy ending on this.
