Wrexham has been shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2029.

This is a huge moment.

This is a chance to celebrate everything that makes Wrexham what it is. The creativity, heritage, humour, language, communities and all the culture happening here every day.

And if we win? Wrexham would become the first Welsh City of Culture.

Amdani is a Welsh rally cry. It means go for it. Get stuck in. Let’s do this.

Procedure for Residents troubled by noise.

Sesswick Community Council (SCC) has noted that a number of residents contacting SCC who are disturbed by noise, for example by the barking of dogs.

Wrexham County Borough Council has a procedure to assist in resolving this problem. The full procedure can be found at https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/noise-complaints

In summary:
1. there is a need to create an account with MyAccount (if you haven’t already)
2. register with the Contact Centre (report noise nuisance online).
3. Ideally download the Noise app for :
a. Android The Noise App - Apps on Google Play or
b. Iphone ‎The Noise App App - App Store
c. Or keep a record of the nuisance
4. Submit the evidence to WCBC
5. WCBC will review the evidence and if appropriate visit to install noise measuring apparatus to enable them to progress the complaint.

As a Community Council, we’re proud to be supporting Wrexham’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2029.

We’ll keep sharing updates as the bid progresses, including what it could mean for Sesswick and the wider local area.

As a resident, you can play a part too. Simply being aware of the bid, talking about it and getting involved in events and activities taking place across Wrexham all help to show that support for Wrecsam2029 reaches across the whole county.

We know there is a particular challenge for a small rural community like Sesswick. We don’t have a village hall or a single focal point where activities can naturally take place, so we’d be interested to hear what you think could work locally.

What would you like to see happening in or around the area — perhaps in places like Bangor-On-Dee village, Marchwiel Community Council, Overton-on-Dee Community or elsewhere nearby?

That could be arts and culture, heritage, music, storytelling, activities for children and young people, community events, creative workshops, or something completely different.

We’d really like to hear your ideas in the comments. What would make you feel that communities like ours were genuinely part of Wrecsam2029?

The scoping application covers the construction of 13 warehouses off Sesswick Road.

As with all community council's, residents are much much welcome to attend!

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 @𝗪𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘀𝗮𝗺𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟵?

👉Wrexham is bidding to become UK City of Culture 2029.

The title is awarded every four years by the UK Government. The winning place hosts a year-long programme of cultural activity, celebrating local arts, heritage, communities and identity.

Wrexham has now been longlisted for the 2029 title, alongside eight other places across the UK. The next stage is for Wrexham to submit a full application this summer. A shortlist is expected in autumn 2026, with the winner due to be announced in winter 2026.

If successful, the bid could bring significant benefits across the county, not just in the city centre. The Wrecsam2029 team says the title could help attract investment, support jobs and training, strengthen cultural and community activity, improve public spaces and venues, and create more opportunities for residents to take part in arts, heritage, sport, music, food and local events.

For Sesswick, this could mean wider benefits from stronger recognition for Wrexham’s rural communities, more opportunities for local groups and businesses, and a chance to make sure the story of the whole county is represented.

• attending engagement events where possible
• sharing ideas about what makes Wrexham, including its rural communities, special
• encouraging local groups, organisations and businesses to back the bid

A reminder for the weekend -

Bryn Afon Hall will be opening their garden gates for the National Garden Scheme on the 27th and 28th of June.

For those unfamiliar with the National Garden Scheme, it’s a wonderful organisation that opens thousands of private gardens across the country to the public, raising vital funds for some of the UK’s best-loved nursing and health charities.

You can explore their seven-acre garden, featuring historic mature trees, herbaceous borders, a rose parterre, and a beautiful wildlife area.
