The new Amgueddfa Bêl-droed Cymru / Football Museum Wales and Wrexham Museum has been open for just over a month now. Have you visited yet?

Housed in the beautiful old County Buildings on Regent Street, this state-of-the-art museum gives you two amazing experiences in one:

⚽️ The Football Half: Experience the history of Welsh football! See legendary items like the team sheet from Wales’ first-ever international in 1876, Gareth Bale’s match shirt and interactive displays that take you from grassroots to the national squad. (There’s even table football to settle some family rivalries!)

⛏️ The Wrexham Half: Discover the fascinating story of Wrexham from pre-history to the present day across 11 stunning, interactive galleries highlighting the area's deep industrial and community heritage.

Plus, there is a brand-new Courtyard Café to grab a coffee halfway through!

Looking for half-term plans? We’ve got you sorted!

Let’s take a look at some of the fantastic events our partner organisations have for inspiration…

There’s the Slumbersaurus: Halloween Spooktacular is at Stori Brymbo on the 30th October! Created by NEW Sinfonia, at this event you can join Slumbersaurus on this brand new Halloween musical adventure!

Wrexham Miners Project have terrifically terrifying Halloween tours on, also adaptable for younger children on request. Check it out!

Grove Park Theatre’s Strangers on a Train opens on the 27th October! Have you seen their amazing exhibition at the new museum yet? Speaking of, the Amgueddfa Bêl-droed Cymru / Football Museum Wales and Wrexham Museums is open and has lots of half-term activities lined up, including Spooky Craft, Half-Term Museum Trails, a guided tour called ‘Objects of the Game’ and a spine-chilling Halloween talk!

Wrexham Libraries’s Dewey Decimal Character Design Competition for ages 5-12 is still open and Wrexham Library will be hosting a special Haunted Histories: Stories and Craft with the National Library of Wales on Friday 30th October 10.00-12.00pm. Spaces are limited and must be booked via Eventbrite.

Tŷ Pawb has plenty on this half term! There’s Autumnal Crafts, family drop-in on the 26th of October, Tuesday Art Club on the 27th, same day as a School Holiday Play Session. Multicultural Hub Wednesdays are on the 28th and on that day too is a fantastic FREE Vegetable Printing & Family Wellbeing Activities, a drop-in vegetable printing session with local artist Rhi Moxon Illustration! There’s lots more of events on at Tŷ Pawb like pumpkin painting, matinee concerts and more, check out their website.

The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War is on at St. Giles' Church, Wrexham until the 29th October. Come see the story, one stitch at a time.

Network Rail has made the Wales & Borders route the first in the organisation to install high-tech, real-time weather stations directly onto existing railway communication masts! 🌬️🛤️

Ten stations, including Gobowen, have been installed across Wales and Borders, measuring rainfall, wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure directly from locations on the railway.

This gives operational teams a clearer picture of the conditions being experienced on the ground. By providing more accurate, localised information, the new technology allows a more targeted response to severe weather, helping keep the railway safe while reducing unnecessary disruption for passengers.

A great two days at the Community Rail Network Conference!

Alongside a brilliant line-up of speakers, it was particularly insightful to listen to Rachael Everard (RSSB) on Tuesday morning as she discussed driving social value in community rail. We also left feeling motivated by Bill Freeman's opening address, which reminded us that the strength of the railway's future comes from community partnerships like ours.

It was a very special evening celebrating 225 years of Chirk Aqueduct.

We are still working through all the pictures and videos we took of the evening but we couldn't wait to share this picture with you of our wonderful Chirk Station Adopters (Friends of Chirk Station) who built this beautiful train. We were honoured to have them represent us and Transport for Wales Trafnidiaeth Cymru by carrying the train during the lantern parade.

🌟 Grant Funding Opportunity | Community Garden 🌟

The National Garden Scheme has opened applications for its 2027 Community Garden Grants – generously supported by the Julia Rausing Trust.

“The National Garden Scheme welcomes applications from projects that bring together people from different backgrounds and experiences, and from those that support disabled people or people living with long-term physical or mental health conditions. With all applications considered on their individual merits, awards between £1,500 and £5,000 will be granted,” says National Garden Scheme Chief Executive, Dr Richard Claxton.
