Cheer loud. Stay smart. Get home safe. ⚽️

Wherever the night takes you, keep water safety in mind. Don't drink and drown.

Stay safe during the World Cup:
• Think ahead – avoid routes by water and stick to busy, well-lit areas
• Don’t split up – and make sure everyone gets home safely
• No late-night swims – alcohol + water is a risky combo

✅ Good nights end with everyone home safe

Red and amber weather warnings are in place across the south of England and Wales today and tomorrow.

Busy beaches, changing weather, and unpredictable currents can all pose risks, especially when children are involved.

If heading to the coast:
🌊 Check the tides – rising water can quickly cut people off in bays and along the coast. Plan ahead and know the tide times before you go.
👥 Stay close – even on lifeguarded beaches, active supervision is essential, particularly when it’s busy and children are harder to spot.
🏖️ Know before you go – check if a lifeguard is on duty and understand beach flags.

Football’s coming home… make sure you do too.⚽️

Watching the match, heading out after, or celebrating in the city? Keep water safety in mind.

Stay safe this World Cup:
• Plan ahead – choose routes away from water, stick to well-lit, busy areas, and keep back from the edge (especially at night).
• Stick together and – don’t let mates walk home alone, particularly near rivers, canals, beaches, or waterfronts.
• Don’t mix alcohol and water – even strong swimmers are at risk. Alcohol impacts your ability to stay afloat and react in an emergency.

✅ Make the right call: celebrate safely.

With amber and red heat warnings in place across the south of England and Wales, it's vital your family knows how to stay safe around water. ☀️

When UK average maximum temperatures reach 25°C or above, accidental drowning risk increases fivefold compared to days around 10°C.

Start the conversation early and help children understand how to stay safe in, on, and around water.

We’ve got free resources such as bookmarks and posters to help support those important safety chats.

The Met Office has issued amber and red weather warnings for extreme heat over the next few days. It’s crucial you and your family know how to stay safe in, on and around water.

If you fall into water or start to feel exhausted, remember, stay calm and float.

Float to Live:
• Tilt your head back so your ears are in the water
• Relax and focus on steady breathing
• Spread your arms and legs to help you stay balanced
• Make small movements with your hands if needed
• Once you’re calm, signal and shout for help or swim to safety

If you spot someone in difficulty, don’t go in to rescue - throw them something that floats.

Always follow the Water Safety Code: Stop and think. Stay Together. Call 999. Float.

Learn it, share it, and help others stay safe in, on, and around water this summer.

Keep the momentum going beyond Drowning Prevention Week by supporting water safety education year-round and helping fund projects like this.

RLSS UK is proud to support greater inclusion, confidence and wellbeing, while helping more children stay safe in and around water.
