Last month, we introduced committee member Bex. This month, we’re delighted to introduce her daughter, Poppy. 💙

The Ollie Young Foundation is powered by more than just its committee - it’s built on the support of volunteers, families and friends who continue to give their time and energy to help us make a difference, we fondly call them the ‘Olliettes’.

If you’ve been to one of our Summer Fun Days, you’ve probably seen Poppy helping out. Always bringing plenty of youthful enthusiasm and a huge smile, she’s been a fantastic supporter of OYF for many years.

Poppy is also part of one of the family’s favourite memories of Ollie. Their parents fondly remember her giving Ollie little hand massages during a camping holiday, creating special moments filled with chat, laughter and friendship.

Thank you, Poppy, for all the energy, kindness and support you bring to the OYF family. 💙

💙⭐️ FEEL GOOD FRIDAY ⭐️💙

As the warmer weekend approaches and more people are out cycling, we are looking back fondly at when Abigail rode a whopping 15 miles to raise money for the Ollie Young Foundation. What a fantastic achievement - and a reminder that we can achieve great goals if we work hard enough.

Huge congratulations to Jules for completing her mammoth journey of walking the South West Coast Path from Minehead to Poole (over 1,022 km) in just 50 days! 🎉

Her memorable adventure came with its ups and downs (mainly due to the hills 😉), but with numerous cows, wading through water, all kinds of weather, and adders, she’s certainly seen her fair share of the countryside!

After a few days of rest at home to soak up what she had achieved, she took some time to relax by... doing another stretch of the SWCP 😆💪
That’s Jules all over — you can’t keep a good girl down!

What started as a personal challenge also became an opportunity to support two charities close to her heart. Through her incredible efforts, she has raised over £2,400, which is being split between the OYF and SSNAP 🙏💙
Very well done, Jules, and thank you so much for all your support 🥰

☀️ Just 2 months to go until the Ollie Young Foundation Annual Summer Fun Day! ☀️

Two months to go, the countdown’s begun,
Until we gather for a day full of fun.
With smiles and laughter, family and friends,
Making memories together that never quite end.

But days like these need helping hands too,
And we’re looking for volunteers just like you.
Whether an hour or a little bit more,
Your support helps open every door.

So if you can help, we’d love you to say,
“I’ll be there to support the Summer Fun Day!”
Together we’ll make it a wonderful sight,
For our community to enjoy and delight. 💙🎉

💙 Meet the Committee 💙

This month we’re introducing one of our dedicated committee members, who has been volunteering with the Ollie Young Foundation for many years. While not involved from the very beginning, she has become an integral part of the foundation, with volunteering very much becoming a family affair over the years. Even Oakley, the family’s much-loved dog, has earned a reputation as the foundation’s unofficial mascot after attending countless events! 🐾

One of her favourite events in the OYF calendar is the Summer Fun Day. Although it’s always a long and busy day, she loves seeing volunteers, supporters and families come together to create such a fantastic community event. Being able to share Ollie’s story and see people enjoying themselves makes all the hard work worthwhile. The day has even inspired a family tradition of rounding things off with a well-earned Chinese takeaway!

Throughout the year, she can often be found helping at fundraising stalls and events. One of the aspects she enjoys most is meeting the many wonderful people who stop by to offer their support, share their own experiences, or talk about their memories of Ollie. Those conversations are a constant reminder of the impact the foundation has had within the local community.

Her memories of Ollie date back to the days when her son Ben and Ollie’s brother Alfie were involved with Finchampstead Football Club. She remembers Ollie as a lively, cheeky youngster who was always smiling, full of energy and never too far away from a snack! Whether supporting the older boys at matches or joining in with the fun around the sidelines, Ollie brought happiness wherever he went.

As a committee member, she brings so much more than her time and energy. Her practical, no-nonsense approach helps keep us focused, organised and moving forward, especially during committee meetings. She’s never afraid to offer honest opinions or help find solutions, and we’re incredibly grateful for the commitment, common sense and good humour she brings to the team.

Thank you for everything you do to support the Ollie Young Foundation and help ensure Ollie’s legacy continues to make a difference in the lives of others. 💙

☀️ Can You Help Sponsor Our Summer Fun Day? ☀️

We’re busy planning our upcoming Summer Fun Day, and we’re looking for local businesses and supporters who would like to help make it a fantastic day for our community.

Sponsorship can help us provide activities, entertainment, and memorable experiences for families while supporting the work of the Ollie Young Foundation.

In return, sponsors will receive recognition across our event promotions and social media channels, as well as the opportunity to show their support for a great local cause.

Whether you’d like to sponsor the event, donate prizes, or contribute in another way, we’d love to hear from you.

💙 If you or your business can help, please get in touch via direct message or email us at [email protected] for more information.

Together, we can make this year’s Summer Fun Day bigger, better, and more enjoyable for everyone!

⭐️ National Volunteer Week ⭐️

Today, we’d like to give a special shout-out to our amazing volunteer, Jean, who does so much to support our stalls throughout the year. 💙

If you’re at Party in the Park on Elms Field today, you’ll find Jean alongside Barbara at our stall. Why not pop over for a chat and find out more about the work of the Ollie Young Foundation and how you could get involved?

National Volunteer Week is the perfect opportunity to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who have supported us over the years. Your time, enthusiasm, and dedication make such a difference, and we couldn’t do what we do without you.

👏 Thank you, Jean, and every one of our incredible volunteers past and present. We truly appreciate everything you do!

💙✨

Some people quietly become part of the fabric of what you do, and the Thornton family have been exactly that for the Ollie Young Foundation over the years.

Jo was there in the early committee days, helping shape things from the ground up, and somehow still found the energy to take on the London Marathon in 2015 for us - which still feels slightly unbelievable when you think about it properly.

Jim not only sponsors the Summer Fun Day, but is also somehow there before most of us arrive and still there when everyone else is eyeing the exit. Lifting, carrying, packing vans, sorting stalls… the kind of help that keeps these events going without ever making a fuss about it.

And then there’s the Thornton kids, Danielle, Sophie and Charlie, who were such good friends of Ollie’s and have grown into genuinely brilliant adults. Every Summer Fun Day they’re right there in the middle of it all - helping on stalls, making people laugh, bringing the energy, and somehow keeping the spirit of the day exactly what it should be.

It’s easy to talk about events and fundraising totals, but foundations like ours are really built on people who just keep showing up, year after year, with kindness, humour, and sleeves already rolled up.

The Thorntons have always been those people.
