Yorkshire Cancer Community

Yorkshire Cancer Community Charity Number 1185838 We are a support and information network for people affected by cancer and those who support cancer patients and their carers.

We are a charity who provides impartial and independent information and listens to those affected by cancer to ensure that they are supported and their voices elevated in Yorkshire and the Humber. We aim to enable the views and experiences of cancer patients, families and friends to be heard, and used to improve the quality of cancer care in our region.

We had a wonderful time at Leeds United Centenary Pavilion on Tuesday for the NHS West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance event Celebrating Innovation Through Collaboration. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the great work that’s being done around our region, and connect with colleagues and partners from other charities and organisations involved in cancer care and research. We were thrilled to discover the winner of the Paul Vose legacy award was our very own trustee and treasurer Stephen Halstead, for his contributions to developing the focus and role of YCC in line with the National Cancer Plan whilst ensuring that the voice of the patient is not lost. The trophy was donated by Dr Stewart Manning and presented by Paul Vose’s widow Jayne. Stephen is pictured collecting his award with L-R Jayne Vose, Jason Pawluk, director of the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance, Stephen Halstead and Christine Talbot, who hosted the event. Paul was a trustee, treasurer and Cancer Champion of YCC and was a member of the Cancer Alliance patient panel. He very sadly passed away in May last year, and this award will create a lasting legacy in his honour.

Congratulations to everyone involved in creating such an incredible event.

The Eden Project have TWO amazing community initiatives, coming together for one big weekend of friendship, food, fun and action on 5-8 June 2026.

🥘 THE BIG LUNCH

Running annually since 2009, The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get together for neighbours and communities when millions of people come together to share friendship, food and fun on the first weekend in June.

Over 10 million people took part in 2025 alone!

👏 THE BIG HELP OUT

The Big Help Out started in 2023, encouraging people to have a go at volunteering, lend a hand and make a difference. Millions of people took part in 2023 and again in 2024, as charities offered simple opportunities for people to find out more and see what volunteering was all about.

This includes Yorkshire Cancer Community, would you be able to spare a few hours each month to help us with our fundraising and awareness?

Message [email protected] to find out how you can get involved with YCC.
