Our Story
The Chipping Women’s Institute began in 1927. Initially, the WI was set up in 1915 in order to revitalise England’s rural communities and encourage women to produce food during World War 1. It has grown substantially the past 103 years to approximately 6,300 WI’s and over 200,000 members. As well, it creates opportunities for women to learn new skills, meet friends, and address issues that face them locally, nationally, and internationally.
We are self-governing within the National WI constitution and rules. The Chipping WI belongs to the Lancashire Federation Women’s Institute, office located 7-9 Croston House, Lancashire Business Park, Centurion Way, Leyland PR26 6TU. Phone number is 01772 459020 and email: [email protected]
We meet the first Wednesday of every month to learn about new topics, organizations and other that enhance both members and their community. There are also fundraising opportunities and group activities to join. If you are only interested in meeting new people, that is okay too and encouraged. There is a committee consisting of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Press Officer and members. In addition there are sub-committees also.
If you have any questions, please contact the Federation Secretary at 01772 459020.
