Home-Start Wakefield & District Home-Start is a national charity with schemes in hundreds of local communities. We also run friendly family groups and hold social events for families.

Family support charity offering volunteer befriending support for parents of children age 0 to 12 yrs

Volunteering opportunities available with bespoke training please contact us if you are interested in finding out more about helping a family. We recruit and train volunteers to help families with at least one child under the age of 12
Our volunteers,who know about being a parent, support other parents by visiting them in their own homes for a couple of hours each week.

A new free school meals Eligibility Checking Service (ECS) will open from 1 June to 1 October 2026, to support a smooth rollout of free school meals to all children from families receiving Universal Credit. Schools and local authorities are encouraged to begin checking eligibility as early as possible to ensure children can access meals from the start of the autumn term.
