Coasts in Mind are running a number of workshop for young people over the month of June: Harry Farmer and his team are offering these for free and I know they will be good:
6th June, 9:30 am – 12:00pm @ Sheerness Beach Car park (Creative Beach Walk Event)
Participants will be guided in the creation of an ephemeral sculpture and artwork on the beach by island artist Laurie Harpum, using materials such as pottery sherds, driftwood, shells and grasses. Participants will be encouraged to explore the coastal environment, considering the history and origin of the objects with MOLA archaeologists.
7th June 11am – 4PM @ Queenborough Guildhall Museum (Archaeology and heritage skills)
1st session 11am to 1 pm 18 – 25 year olds, 2nd session 2pm -4pm all welcome (under 18’s accompanied by parent/ guardian
Join Archaeologists from Museum of London Archaeology learn how to handle, identify and record archaeological finds using 3D photogrammetry + how archaeologists record in-situ features.
9th June 11am – 2pm @ Criterion, Blue Town (Creative indoor Workshops)
Participants will work with clay and beach materials such as pottery sherds, driftwood, shells and grasses to create a sculpture in response to their experience and memories of the coast. Local artist, Laurie Harpum, will instruct and guide participants who can choose to craft their own piece or collaborate.
11th June 2-m – 4pm @ Cliff Drive carpark, Warden (Creative Beach Walk Event)
