GWCT Scotland

GWCT Scotland Leading UK charity conducting conservation science. The place for everything Scottish related.

This page has recently changed from being dedicated to The Scottish Auction to covering all of GWCT Scotland's Events. There are numerous events run throughout Scotland each year which are organised by regional committees from across the country. All of the proceeds from the events are invested directly to the invaluable work of GWCT Scotland. Regions that host events are listed below and they inc

lude dinners & auctions, clay pigeon days, golf competitions, shoot walks, social evenings, (Scotland's first Hip flask challenge will be held in Edinburgh in 2018 - look out for it!) and of course, The Scottish Auction itself. Regions that host events:

Edinburgh and South East Scotland
Fife & Kinross
Grampian
Highland
Tayside
West of Scotland

Keep an eye open for events as they are advertised on this page and contact Rory Donaldson at [email protected] for further information on any of the events, if you'd like to donate a Lot to an auction or if you'd be interested in speaking to any of the Regional Chairmen about becoming more involved in the events. Should you wish to provide a Lot for The Scottish Auction please contact Angela Walker at [email protected] who will be delighted to hear from you

Wild kittens have been born in the Cairngorms for the third year in a row 🐾
A really encouraging sign that released wildcats are surviving, settling into the landscape and raising young in the wild. The results of the Big Farmland Bird Count 2026 are in! This year we had an amazing 63 counts across Scotland, with 10,006 birds counted 🐦‍⬛🐦

Overall the results show that farms providing supplementary feeding are supporting higher numbers of many farmland bird species whose breeding populations are declining nationally.

With the Scottish Parliament election now concluded, the SNP emerge once again as the largest party at Holyrood, but without securing an overall majority.

In light of the election result and the balance of power in the new Parliament, read our latest blog and analysis of how the key rural commitments set out in party manifestoes may translate into policy.

It was great to be able to welcome the Scottish Government’s Wildlife Management and Natural Environment Bill team's to Burncastle Grouse Moor recently.

It was a valuable chance for GWCT colleagues to discuss upland management on the ground, explore practical considerations, and share perspectives on current legislative requirements.

Constructive conversations like these help ensure policy is informed by real‑world experience across Scotland’s uplands. Read our short summary of the visit: https://www.gwct.org.uk/blogs/news/2026/may/scottish-government-visit-to-burncastle-grouse-moor/
