Pianist Julian Chan gave an utterly spellbinding performance at The Poltimore Arms Brayford Yarde Down on Saturday evening, giving the freshly-tuned Bechstein a comprehensive workout as he guided the very appreciative audience through a vast array of repertoire spanning 16th-20th centuries, with Satie's 'Embryons Desséchés' ('Dessicated Embryos') proving an unexpected hit with the locals!

A delightful programme of much-loved works, as well as some lesser-known ones, including Massenet's 'Meditation' with violinist Ishani Bhoola, a much-loved regular performer at Barkham, and Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' from first-time visitor, Charles Matthews.
Charles is a distinguished pianist whose wide-ranging career has included performances for productions by the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet, broadcasts for BBC Radio 3, international solo and chamber-music appearances, and several recordings. Charles also works extensively with young musicians and is a piano accompanist and tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
