Two talented Devon students enjoyed a workshop with
RCM professor, Madeleine Mitchell violinist at Barkham Exmoor on Sunday morning, ahead of Madeleine giving a warmly-appreciated afternoon performance of sonatas by Ireland and Franck with Brazilian pianist, Clélia Iruzun, then delighted the audience with a short encore by Brazilian composer, Ronaldo Miranda.

The Bridge Quartet enjoyed their residency at last weekend and were very warmly received by our appreciative audience. Frank Bridge's quartet transcription of the tune you might well know as 'Danny Boy' took on a whole new perspective when someone suggested the quartet might play 'The London Derrière'!

Veteran clarinettist Margaret Archibald led a fabulous day for single-reed players from near and far, wonderfully supported by clarinettist Juliet Bucknall and pianist Margaret Roberts. In memory of our dear friend Peter Nichols, it was particularly special to have his son dust down his sax for the occasion and to be joined by .nichols.18 and her flute. We had a very warm and appreciative audience for Philip Lancaster and Alex Wilson’s Sunday afternoon recital which, alongside works for the duo by Finzi, Vaughan Williams and Kenneth Leighton, included the premiere of a new work by Philip Lancaster for Baritone, Viola and Piano, in which they were joined by Leonie Anderson, along with Rubbra’s stunning ‘Two Sonnets of William Alabaster’ for the same combination.
