Losing a horse no matter what the age is never easy. It’s taken some time for us to post on social media about the absolute Tour de Force that was Wolfie, being put to sleep due to colic in July. We wanted to write something that remembers what an RDA light Wolfie was (some may say raw flame).

Wolfie was sensitive, intelligent and was always able to deliver some form of fabulous performance…. whether you’d asked him to or not. Bought as a 14-year-old Para prospect, Wolfie stayed at South Bucks for fifteen years.

Wolfie taught riders lateral work, he taught riders to be soft, he took riders to competition, he met Princess Anne at our 60th Birthday party and behaved outrageously when everyone applauded (Yes, Ma’am, he is nearly 30).

His show name was Prince Charming, and whether on script or tastefully rogue he was always regal, charismatic and loyal to his rider. If you wanted to feel joy, watch a shy young person experience a Wolfie medium trot for the first time.

One rider nicknamed Wolfie ‘old but gold’ and it fitted because he was precious to us.
No one horse feels the same, each one brings their own presence and their own set of lessons which stay long after.

Wolfie was contagiously energetic and jubilant and he taught so many people that they could be gentle and still be heard, and that freedom follows when you realise it’s what you can do that counts.
