The sun certainly had his hat on today, making our annual New Year Lunch at the Dumb Bell pub even more special. It was a real pleasure to meet up once again with our elderly friends to celebrate the beginning of spring and welcome in the New Year together.

As always, we were wonderfully hosted by the Dream Team — Wendy, Shelley and Danielle — who ensured there was plenty of delicious home-cooked food for everyone. The service, as we’ve come to expect, was delivered with efficiency and a smile.

A new addition to this year’s event was a special mode of transport for those unable to make their own way to the venue. The local Scout bus was dusted off and swept out for the occasion, and we even persuaded our Christmas Elf driver, Allan, to come out of retirement to chauffeur our ladies there and back home again. The only slight disappointment was that they couldn’t be convinced to have a sing-song along the way — but there’s always next time!

A huge thank you also goes to our Rotarians and Friends who gave their time to help serve and support the event, making it another memorable and heartwarming occasion for all involved.

🎄 Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa’s Coming to Town! 🎅
Get ready for a magical December as Santa Claus rides in on our Rotary Float, spreading cheer down a road near you! It’s that joyful time of year again, and Santa has shared his schedule so you and your little ones can come out to wave hello and support our local charities.

We’ll do our very best to visit every road listed on the scheduled evening. But sometimes, those mischievous elves throw a spanner in the works! If we miss a stop, don’t worry—we’ll do our best to return another day.

So bundle up, bring your smiles, and let’s make this season sparkle with generosity and joy!

A Day for the Classics.

Blessed with fine weather, lively entertainment, and plenty of delicious refreshments, this year’s classic car gathering was a true celebration of style and community. Proud owners rolled in with their beautifully maintained vehicles, joined by friends, families, and car enthusiasts of every age.
From early morning until late afternoon, Rotarians and friends worked tirelessly to ensure smooth parking for modern cars, while giving the classic beauties plenty of space to shine. From the slowest on the road (steam driven 120 year old model ) to Spitfires, Morgans, Land Rover, Austin, Jaguars, Mercedes Benz, MG, Fiat, Ferrari, to name but a few amazing makes. A true delight for the car enthusiasts among us.
Lunchtime brought the sweet nostalgia of timeless tunes, with many in the crowd happily singing along. The cheerful music carried through the afternoon, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
And in perfect British fashion, the rain politely waited until just before the close of the show — leaving us with another memorable day to cherish.

🌻 Annual BBQ for Our Elderly Friends
The A Team was out in force today to welcome our elderly friends for our much-loved annual BBQ.
Although we thought we had ordered perfect weather, the weather gods had other plans! Overnight, we lost one gazebo, and the wind kept us on our toes all morning and afternoon. Even when we nearly lost a second gazebo mid-BBQ, the team persevered. We managed to receive, seat, entertain, and feed our guests — just before the rain finally decided to join the party.

Despite these challenges, a wonderfully jolly day was had by all. We were also honoured to welcome our new President, President Dan, and Rotarian Tania, who not only acted as drivers but also joined in to chat with our friends and help as part of our service team. Rotarians John and Tony and Rotarian friend Vanessa completed our team of drivers, servers and for today only, gazebo protecters

Although we had to curtail our post-lunch socialising (thanks to rain and some runaway gazebos), our guests went home smiling and happily full of delicious BBQ treats.
