Action For Ingwavuma CIO - UK registered charity 1164898 To refer to this South African area as poverty stricken is a gross understatement.

Action for Ingwavuma is a small UK charity, at the heart of enabling women and children in a remote part of the world to be given the fighting chance they need to stabilise and survive. Plainly put, there is a lack of access to basic human needs. Families in the region surrounding the town of Ingwavuma have been decimated by the scourge of HIV and extreme poverty. Local women’s groups produce outstanding embroidery items which we sell on their behalf in the UK. Through this and other UK fundraising, we enable access to water and food for individual families to sustain life, and provide support in education for the children, many of whom are orphans. Our aim is to provide relief and assistance to people in need particularly families impacted by HIV, malnutrition and poverty, with special focus upon a women’s self-help group. We provide help by fundraising through donations and events in the UK. We also purchase and sell the embroidery products from Fancy Stitch self-help women’s group, and beaded products from a South African artist.

On behalf of all of us at Action for Ingwavuma we wanted to thank you all for your love care and kindness helping us support the women of Ingwavuma as much as you have. We are so humbled by the generosity and gifts you have donated to the charity and we look forward to 2026 and the plans we have to try and help even more.

We currently have an order in place waiting for January reopening of the water tank suppliers where ten families will have their lives changed with a rain catching water tank being installed at their home! Amazing how your small donations help change the lives of a deeply deserving home in Ingwavuma.

We’ve spoken about water and water harvesting tanks before many times. The issue of water in Ingwavuma is such a problem it cannot be overstated.

Here we’ve got Bafana, who works with us in Ingwavuma, visiting the families who have received tanks donated by AFI. He listens to their stories of how their lives have been transformed. It is really amazing to hear and affirms the hard work we try to do.

If you would like to donate please see link in our bio. Anything and everything makes a difference. 💜💧💜

Vegetable gardens! 🌽🥕🧅

These were taken a couple of weeks ago by . Vegetable patches are vital for families and most have one next to their huts and home. It’s not easy to grow veggies in Ingwavuma- the women are really up against it.

The work is hard, and under difficult circumstances the women have to clear the land, build fences around the plot, afford to buy the seeds, water (so tough & time consuming) and care for the plants. But it is really worth it and with money being short it helps feed the family and any extra can be sold to neighbours.

Somehow this photo reminds us of why we work so hard for the charity.

Opportunities are limited. Food is precious and now more than ever SO expensive. But in spite of all the difficulties there are still smiles and amazing grandmothers 💗💗☺️

This beautiful wall hanging has just been completed by some of our most experienced and talented textile artists. The artwork is 1m x 1m. It was carefully designed as a private commission and we love it! ❤️😍💜

Please take a moment to appreciate the fine detail and see the proteas, aloes and hoopoe and scroll through to see the women who made it.

To buy any of their smaller embroidered pieces please go to the shop. Link in our bio 😊
