Today we hear from Hannah, Mum to Caolán. My words of wisdom for any new Parents to a child with Down Syndrome would be to enjoy your baby! The time goes so quickly and I spent so much of those first months worried or researching groups. Your child will amaze you in ways you didn’t know possible and have you bursting with pride at everything they achieve!
Caolán has been a model for Primark, has friends at Nursery, knows more Makaton signs than we can keep up with and has the funniest, cheekiest personality! He’s also the best big brother 💖

We found out Rocco has Down Syndrome when he was nearly 6 months old. That is unusual as most people receive a diagnosis either prenatally or at birth. Newborn babies are hard work and they don’t give a lot back. How can they? By the time we received Rocco’s diagnosis he had already shown us so much personality; he had become such a big part of our family and we already loved him immeasurably so, I think that made his diagnosis a lot less scary. When you look for information on T21, it is daunting. The information cannot show you the person; the love and the little things that make them tick. All the medical information in the world cannot show you your child’s value; their true worth. In his little life, Rocco has already given us so much. I honestly wouldn’t change him for the world. So, I guess my advice is, try not to worry. Try and wait and let them show you who they are. - Heather, Rocco’s Mum 🩷⭐️

Today we hear from Nandi’s Mum, Khilna:

Having a child with Down syndrome has taught us that life doesn’t always follow the path we imagined, but sometimes it leads us somewhere even more beautiful. Nandi has opened our hearts, brought incredible people into our lives and taught us to celebrate every little milestone. My words of wisdom would be: don’t let a diagnosis define your child’s future. See your child first, embrace the journey and never underestimate their potential.

Today we hear from Kate, Mum to Lydia:

Lydia has brought so much joy to our lives. From the moment we found out she had Down Syndrome we knew that was the path we were meant to be on

She has taught us to never underestimate her potential and what she can achieve. The journey is is different path but a fun and rewarding one.

Today we hear from Ratinder, Dominics Mum:

We received Dominic’s diagnosis on day 5 in hospital, he was 5 days old. The Paediatric Consultant and 2 other Doctors who stood by her all said “we are so sorry your son has Down Syndrome” and all had tears in their eyes. They handed me a brown envelope with outdated information in which was awful. After everyone left our room and I held my baby crying the midwife grabbed my shoulders and said “ there is nothing wrong with your son, hes healthy, beautiful and will show you how wrong they are, see you in a few years for your next one! And do your own research!”. She was right, our life may have altered slightly as it does with every new addition to the family but Dominic lives our lifestyle whether he likes it or not! 1st trip abroad was Christmas Markets in Belgium and he was 6 months old and we are still travelling and living life the way we want to!

We are over half way through Down syndrome awareness month & hope you’re loving our words of wisdom for new families whilst also learning lots of facts from our stories!
