Belonging: Art Beyond Belief continues its school projects. The Belonging Project involved young people sharing their ideas on “belonging” - how we feel we fit in, what are the challenges to belonging, where do we feel we most belong does faith increase our sense of belonging? It was a co-production in partnership with Slough Borough Council’s Strategic Partnerships Team. The project aimed to engage young people in meaningful conversations with the team and other Council members; exploring questions like; What can a Local Authority do to encourage a sense of belonging in its citizens? What are the things that make us uneasy or feel that we don’t belong?
It aimed to give expression to these themes through posters
produced on iPads supplied by Art Beyond Belief. Forty Year9 students from four secondary schools in Slough presented their 10 week’s work at the conference. The Belonging conference was held on July 9th at Slough & Eton School. It was attended by
students/teachers from all participating schools and adults from partner organisations. Our special thanks to Slough Borough Council officers, particularly Becs Curley and Helen Buckland, as well has Peter Collins, Head of Slough & Eton School and his team for hosting the conference. Also thanks to the arts and humanities teachers of St Bernards, Grove Academy, Slough and Eton and Wexham schools for their support during the project and conference.

IT IS NOT FAIR!
Art Beyond Belief has partnered with Slough Faith Partnership to run another successful Story Tent event in mid-June. Story Tent Slough 2026 was organised by Slough Faith Partnership in conjunction with ABB and St Mary’s Church. It is supported by Slough Borough Council Education Team, Slough Children First. 244 Yr4 and Yr5 students from St Mary’s Primary School, Grove Academy, Islamic Shakhsiyah School and Penn Wood School participated the event. We had a large diversity of story tellers from eight different faiths. We are grateful to Dr Anne Moseley for leading on of the three days and students from Slough & Eton leading the art exercise in the afternoon. Feedback from one of the story tellers said: "This is an excellent initiative which I really enjoyed. The children were very engaged, the teenaged helpers outstanding in their maturity and the way in which they engaged with the children and it was lovely to have the chance to speak with some of the other story tellers." Some examples of the work done by the students on this year's topic: "It is not fair!"

Art Beyond Belief will be running its second Inspire programme in May. The programme Inspire is about discovering “Self”. It includes presentations on artists who have suffered various mental health issues, presentations on concepts like relationships, networking, communities, communication, change, our anxieties and fears and how to cope with them. We will also have discussions following the presentations and digital art exercises on those topics.We also have an art trip to Courtauld gallery which has an extensive collection of Impressionist art.
This programme is free and open to the residents of Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead. Anyone interested please contact [email protected]
