What a night to remember for Charlie and Shropshire Widows Sons!

The Shropshire Chapter of the Widows Sons were out in force to support our brother William “Charlie” Bingham as he was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason and proudly patched in on the evening as a full Widows Sons member. A truly proud and well-deserved

The lodge was consecrated in the same building (Castle Hall, Bridgnorth) exactly 150 years ago on the 25th August 1876, a very special milestone!

The support on the evening was outstanding, with members of the Shropshire Widows Sons in attendance alongside our Provincial Grand Master, who proudly joins us as an honorary member of the SWS - The brotherhood, camaraderie, and encouragement shown throughout the evening were second to none.

A huge thank you must go to the Brethren of Castle Lodge 1621 for delivering a fantastic ceremony. And a special thanks to the Shropshire Provincial Team for their attendance.
Everyone commented on what an excellent evening it was, making it an occasion that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

What makes Charlie’s achievement even more special is that his journey into Freemasonry began with the Widows Sons, where he was introduced into Freemasonry. There’s a great story behind that journey, and we’ll be sharing a full write-up very soon!

Congratulations, Charlie — a fantastic achievement and an unforgettable evening!

Secret rituals and symbols on lattes:
Metro goes inside Freemasons Grand Lodge

Metro was invited into the United Grand Lodge of England by the Freemasons, who have been at the centre of wild conspiracies for centuries.

A presentation to Derwen College today brought great pleasure to the staff, photographed here with W. Bro. Peter Cherrington, Worshipful Master of Combined Services Lodge No. 9988.

Our sincere thanks go to the members who supported a request for £1,250. It would also be wrong not to mention our Charity Steward, W. Bro. Richard Webster — a man on a mission!

You’ll notice the figure above was £1,250, but as W.Bro Cherrington feels so strongly about this charity and the work they do, W.Bro Peter Cherrington agreed to match it — so £2,500 was presented in total.

The funds will help young people entering the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, many of whom have to find £40 out of pocket just for the application form. We’re glad to assist in some small way.

In the photo, from left to right:

• Steve Evans, Sport and Leisure Coordinator
• Becky Bowyer, Marketing, Brand and Communications Manager
• Bryony Wesson, Fundraiser
Well done to all involved!!
