The August rating list was released a few days ago, and there’s been a little less movement than we usually see. Muhammad was the big mover 📈, gaining an impressive 86 points in blitz to climb into 2nd place in the list!

Connor Oswin makes his first appearance on the list after an excellent run of form, winning back-to-back Newport Summer Blitz events. 😀

“Oh no, not another one!” 😱

That was the reaction from the adults in tonight’s 7 round swiss tournament, as it wasn’t the usual juniors Krish or Muhammad taking top spot!

Instead, it was Connor, a recent addition to Newport Juniors, who swept aside the competition with an impressive 6.5/7 to take outright first🥇in tonight’s Swiss tournament — and a maximum 50 Tour Points!

Krish 🥈 finished in 2nd after a fortunate win against Chris, who had to settle for 3rd.

Muhammad had an unusually quiet evening, finishing🥉3rd placed Junior, while Harlem put in a fantastic performance to claim 4th place with 4 points. 👏

With just one Arena remaining, it’s looking increasingly likely that we’ll see a Muhammad vs Krish Speed Chess Playoff at Christmas! 🎄♟️

However, it’s not over yet — Aditya is the only player with a realistic chance of catching them on Tour Points, so there’s still plenty to play for in the final Arena!

Possibly the most dominant performance we've ever witnessed in an online arena. 👑🔥 King Krish was simply untouchable tonight, producing a masterclass from start to finish. An incredible 16½/17 score left the rest of the field battling for second place as he stormed to victory with complete authority and a performance rating of 2262.

The race for the remaining podium places was much closer. Nigel Ferrington claimed second place, with Aditya finishing just a single point behind in third and claiming the🥈silver junior medal.

In the junior standings, Prasanna takes home the🥉bronze medal as the third-highest junior.

Krish will add 67 tour points to his score and is now comfortably in the lead.

It was the last day of term for Shropshire Junior Chess Club. We celebrated with a fun knockout tournament followed by well-earned ice cream! 🍦♟️

A huge thank you, as always, to our two dedicated coaches, Sanjeev and Rob, to Meole Brace Peace Memorial Hall for hosting us throughout the year, and to all our fantastic junior members and supportive families. Your enthusiasm and commitment are what make the club such a success. 👏👏👏

The club will now take a well-deserved summer break. We hope everyone has a brilliant summer, and we look forward to welcoming you all back in September for another exciting year of chess!

Our final school tournaments of the year were the inaugural ♟Shropshire Girls Primary Schools Championships and the ♟Shropshire U9 Knights Championships.

4 teams competed in the girls championships and in the end it was an impressive🏆 St Laurence team who triumped, winning every match to score 12pts. Broseley Girls finised 2nd🥈on 6 pts just edging it on tiebreak above St Laurence B who came 3rd🥉.

A huge congratulations to Elsie Stinton and Matilda Reid, who both achieved a fantastic 6/6 score! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

In the U9 Knights Championships🏆 Broseley Knights A showed the benefit of their previous tournament experience to win all 6 matches to finishing on a perfect 6/6 score thus scoring 12 pts. St Laurence Knights came 2nd🥈on 8 pts whilst Broseley Knights B claimed 3rd🥉.

Special mention this time to Tymofii Litviakov and Alfie Link who both scored a flawless 6/6 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.

Thank you Adam and Bradley, 2 pupils from Broseley, who did a superb job acting as arbiters on the day.

Lastly a big thank you to Broseley for hosting another fantastic event. We hope all the schools have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to meeting new players next term for another exciting season of tournaments!

Shropshire had its best ever results at the Gigafinal! Muhammad, Aditya and Prasanna all scored 5/7 🔥🔥🔥 to qualify for the challengers in September 🥳🥳. This prestigious event will feature only the most elite juniors across the country. And it's one step closer to the Terafinals!

There were other great performances including Oakley on 4pts, Hriday on 3.5pts and Sai and Adam on 3pts 👏👏.
