Befriending for people affected by cancer

Please help us spread the word!

Omega is one of the providers for the Lingen Davies Cancer Support wellbeing programme, aimed at people in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales who are affected by cancer.

Funding from Lingen Davies means we can provide our befriending services to people affected by cancer, plus family members of friends who care for them, if they are experiencing loneliness.

If you know someone who could benefit, please let them know about the service. Thank you 💛

Seeking volunteer to support our Stourbridge group.

We are seeking a Volunteer Assistant Co-ordinator to support the Lead Co-ordinator of our group for bereaved people who meet 11 times a year in Stourbridge (West Midlands).

The group is mainly older people – both women and men – who enjoy interacting with one another for a friendly chat and peer support.

We are looking for someone outgoing and helpful, who is empathetic, supportive and able to engage with others.

The group currently meet for lunch at The Hadcroft Pub in Lye so own transport or access to bus routes 142, 9, 142A or 7 is required. The role is unpaid but travel and subsistence costs will be reimbursed.

If required, the Assistant Co-ordinator would step in to take over if the Lead Co-ordinator is unable to attend or is required to assist one of the attendees.

If you, or someone you know fits the bill, we would love to hear from you. Please contact us (details in the comments) and we will arrange an initial conversation with our group Lead Co-ordinator.

Thank you for your support. 💛

Pupil Pals

As our Pupil Pals schools are now on their six-week summer break, we need your help! We would love to keep sending artwork and cards to our older and socially isolated clients over this period. We have nearly 150 clients who we send cards to once a month, through our Pupil Pals programme.

If you, or someone you know (young or grown-up!) has a bit of time to spare to create a handmade, uplifting, colourful card or two (or more...) we would love to receive them at our Omega office.

And if you are part of a group (children or adults) who may enjoy this activity as a one-off or more regularly, we would love to hear from you too.

👉Draw or create an uplifting card or piece of artwork
👉Send it to us at Omega (address below)
👉We will send it on to one of our clients, and hopefully put a smile on their face!

Thank you for your support.

Celebrating our amazing volunteers 🎉

This is Jean, one of our brilliant pen pal befrienders. We have just had the honour of awarding Jean a certificate to recognise the amazing milestone of having written 150 letters to a single client, over a number of years! And this isn’t the only pen pal client that Jean supports through our Letterbox programme…💛

Thank you so much Jean, for all you do to bring connection and comfort to people who are lonely and socially isolated.

Could you volunteer to become a pen pal or telephone befriender to someone who is lonely? We would love to hear from you. Link in the comments.

And you don’t have to write as many letters as Jean!

Pupil Pals

Look at this beautiful artwork we’ve received from pupils at St Giles, one of the primary schools which takes part in our Pupil Pals programme. 💛👏

Through Pupil Pals, we work with schools to raise awareness of loneliness. We ask pupils to create artwork and cards which we send to our isolated and lonely clients every month, to brighten their days.

A big THANK YOU to St Giles, and all our other Pupil Pals schools who have sent us artwork recently, including Channing School, Outwoods primary school, Alderman Knight school and Sundorne Infant School and Nursery. All our Pupil Pals schools are brilliant!

Do you know someone who is lonely and would like to receive artwork regularly through Pupil Pals? Do you know of a school that would like to get involved and help us in our mission to end loneliness? Find out more about how to get involved in the comments.

Thank you also to Triangle HR Limited, our Pupil Pals sponsor who helps make this work possible.
