There is SO much happening in the Community Energy sector right now. It's amazing to have a few of us here at the sold out Community Energy England summer conference, meeting old contacts and making new connections. Learning about all the amazing, innovative projects across the UK and sharing news of our future plans for the Big Solar Co-op.

It really feels like the time is now to and get community energy off the sidelines and into the mainstream ✊

The sun here in the UK is beating down on the 1464 kWp of installed rooftop solar collectively owned by Big Solar Co-op members. You can check out the live data we get from our inverters here:

Our solar monitor is based on data we get from our inverters (the equipment that turns DC electricity from the solar panels into AC electricity for use on site and export to the grid).

Exciting times for our Whiteborough 3.5MW groundmount solar project...

The site is drying out nicely after all the rain in Jan/Feb, phase 1 is nearing completion and this truck is loaded with **recycled panels** for phase 2. All flash tested, carefully repackaged and ready to start a new life generating more clean electricity; which we think is a UK first⚡♻️⚡♻️⚡♻️⚡

More info on our website and we will be running an update Zoom call in June that is open for registrations now:

We were really honoured to be invited up to the University of Glasgow to give a guest lecture for the new Sustainable Energy Landscapes module led by Prof. Harriet Thomson.

Earlier in the day, we met with the university estates team to discuss the solar potential of their many campus buildings and future sustainability planning. We also caught up with Glasgow Community Energy to talk about what was already happening CE solar-wise in the city.

It was great to spend time with the Masters students talking about community energy and what it actually takes to get solar projects off the ground. We also got into some practical discussions around spotting potential solar sites and how urban and rural communities can shape the energy future.

And as a big shiny bonus, the beautiful city of Glasgow gave us absolutely brilliant sunshine all day too. Big thanks to Harriet and everyone at the University of Glasgow for having us!

Another install, another happy host organisation - Age UK Gateshead 🌞

“Working with Big Solar Cooperative has been a very positive experience for Age UK Gateshead. Our solar panels are now generating clean electricity for the building, which is helping us reduce energy costs. These savings allow us to put more money into supporting older people across Gateshead. The team at Big Solar have been clear, helpful and easy to work with throughout, and we’re proud to be part of a project that benefits both our charity and the environment.”
Donna Taylor, Group Director - Age UK, Gateshead
