You can use our computers or bring in your own device. It is just £1 per hour or part thereof to use our services. We also have short courses available from time to time.

The Go To at The Roy Fletcher Centre

The Go-To Internet Café is based within the Roy Fletcher Centre which is ideally situated in the heart of Shrewsbury Town Centre and provides IT support and advice on a range of subjects, with access to eight computers and an army of volunteers on hand to assist. If people want to bring in their own devices such as tablets and laptops that they are having problems with then this is also welcomed. We can offer 1-2-1 tuition by arrangement.

The Roy Fletcher Centre is home to a variety of charities who work with the homeless, young families in crisis, those experiencing financial problems and others with varying degrees of learning disabilities.

We use social media to advertise the Go-To as well as extensive marketing campaigns through local press, magazines and on Radio Shropshire. Whilst most of our clients are 60+ we welcome people of all ages.

If we were fortunate enough to be awarded some funding in the category Skills for Life this would enable us to work with the general public and people coming to the Centre looking for help, advice and support. We could help them:

1. set up an email account

2. get on to internet banking

3. job seeking – help with CV’s, form filling and searching relevant sites

4. by working in co-operation with some of our other charities, organise workshops on budgeting and financial planning – appropriate to young families and older people with limited financial resources

5. teach older people how technology can help them stay in touch with family and friends via Skype as an example and help reduce their isolation and loneliness

6. by working with a local homeless shelter we would be able to help with on-line bidding for accommodation and again, financial budgeting.

7. We have recently run a job-club (for people of any age), which incorporated not just writing CV’s but helping people identify their strengths and weaknesses and ways they can help themselves in stressful situations like a job interview. We also helped them by showing what makes CV’s and job application stand out from others, and identifying what an employer is looking for from job adverts.

We have a valuable resource with the Go-To Internet and we want to reach as many people as possible and help and support them in whatever area they feel they need help. The funding would help us to ‘buy-in’ some expert tuition and be able to run courses or drop-in sessions with specialist advisors.

Nobody knows when they are going to reach a crisis in their lives, the Roy Fletcher Centre has been here for 20 years helping people in need and by voting for the Go-To this would enable us to reach and help more people and hopefully help them when they are possibly at the lowest point in their life.
