Please note the below may be subject to change based on government guidelines and advice from UK Youth. SYCP Pregnancy to Pre-School .. a group for expecting, new mums, dads and carers of little ones. It provides fun, but relaxed activities for the children to develop their social skills whilst supporting families in their new journey of parenthood/caring for a little one. We also have special g

uests and the Family Wellbeing Coordinator will also be on hand at the afternoon session. Friday 9.15-10.45am and Friday 12.45-2.15pm @ Nettlesworth Community Centre

Fun semi-structured activities for Reception – Year Six. A healthy meal is also provided. Monday and Friday @ Nettlesworth Community Centre

A specific group targeted at year six children to help them and their families prepare for the big change that happens when moving from Primary to Secondary education. Pre-booking essential. Step Up Girls Project
Targeted support for girls aged 12-19 to support their emotional resilience and to create the female leaders and entrepreneurs of the future. This project is delivered in partnership with local secondary schools and is now live. Session Wednesday 5-7pm @ The Hub

Family Focus
Family Focus is our new project to support the family unit. Our Family Wellbeing Coordinator will provide holistic family-centred support covering topics such as health, finances, safety, having fun as a family, and being part of the community. There will be sessions in school, events and activities (both via Zoom and in a Room), a vast range of online resources on Facebook and the Website, and a parents forum as well as the opportunities for families to create a bespoke Family Action Plan individualised to their personal circumstances so that 2022 can be the best year yet! We will be drawing on the expertise of the many established partners we have to provide the best possible service for our families. Friday Seniors
A safe but fun environment for teenager to be teenagers! AS well as fun activities, there is also advice and support teens through the tricky teenage years, to encourage independence and a positive mindset. Friday 6-9pm @ Nettlesworth Community Centre

Duke of Edinburgh Award group for those in Year 8 and above. A personal development programme that can be achieved at Bronze, Silver and Gold level. This is a globally recognised qualification which will certainly see you step out from the crowd when applying for further education, employment or training. We meet every Monday 5-7pm at The Hub in Sacriston.

SYP Wombles
Outdoor activities to improve the local environment and undertake random acts of kindness, this will be a collaborative project with Friends of Local Nature- Sacriston for 2022. Details will be available on the website and social media. Social Action Sacriston.... coming soon ..... more details to follow

School Holiday Club
Free holiday provision including sports, healthy living activities, crafts, art, STEM, DIY, cookery, DJ-img.... basically lots of fun! Dates launched for booking via the website ahead of each holiday period. We offer full days, plus additional drop-in sessions across Nettlesworth Community Centre and @ The Hub. Lego Club
Primary aged group using Lego to develop fine motor skills, increase social interaction, promote problem solving and practise turn-taking and patience all whilst having fun. Light tea is also provided. Tuesday 3.30-4.30pm @ The Hub

Interactive Pre-school session to develop speech and language, hand-eye coordination and much more with songs, much loved nursery rhymes with movement, instruments, puppets and much more. Thursday 12.30 @ The Hub

Starting Wednesday 9th September, we're launching a new space for girls to connect, be heard and make a difference.

Girl Collective will be a welcoming youth group where girls can:

🎨 Get creative and try new things
💪 Build confidence and skills
🌟 Work together on projects and campaigns that create positive change

Most importantly, Girl Collective is shaped by the girls who attend — your voice, your ideas and your collective.

🎯 CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING WITH NE YOUTH! 🎯

Some of our young people had the fantastic opportunity to try clay pigeon shooting with NE Youth on Friday – and what a brilliant experience it was! 🙌

Everyone had a great time trying something completely different, and we have to give a special shout-out to our fabulous Lola, who was the overall winner of the competition! 🏆👏 Clearly some hidden shooting skills there, Lola! 🎯😂

We were so well looked after throughout the day, with refreshments provided and a lovely meal at a local countryside pub afterwards. 🍽️

It was also a great opportunity to meet and chat with other youth groups, share experiences and spend the day with some brilliant people. 💙

A huge thank you to NE Youth for inviting us and giving our young people another experience to remember. We absolutely loved it! 💙

🧵✂️ KIDS SEWING CLUB ✂️🧵

Our monthly Kids Sewing Club has been busy again! 💕🪡
The children are currently working on their very own patchwork quilts, choosing their fabrics, cutting out their squares and learning how to piece and sew everything together. Just look at those gorgeous patterns! 😍

And our lovely Lola has been getting creative too, making this brilliant personalised cushion! 🥰🦖

We absolutely love seeing the children learning proper sewing skills, gaining confidence using the sewing machines and, most importantly, creating something they can be really proud of. 💙

Our Kids Sewing Club runs once a month at SYP and is always such a lovely, chilled and creative session.
We can't wait to see those finished quilts! 🧵🪡✨

💙 SYP THROUGH THE YEARS | 2/10 – TAKING TO THE SEA ⛵

By 2014, SYP was already delivering much more than weekly youth club sessions.

And this was the year an opportunity came along that would become a recurring part of the SYP story...

⛵ Tall Ships.

Young people from Sacriston took part in SYP's first Tall Ships Youth Trust residential sailing project.

Living together aboard a sailing vessel, young people were challenged to work as a team, try new things, build confidence, develop independence and discover what they were capable of.

The project was such a success that SYP received its first Youth Work That Works Award. 🏆

And more than a decade later...

That plaque still has pride of place at SYP today. 💙

Our archives show just how much was happening around this period – DofE, residentials, Yorkshire Three Peaks and Sandstone Way training, Roseberry Topping, TAS Lads activities and our SYP Celebration Evening.

Then in 2015, SYP took to the sea again.

Looking back, it's incredible how many things we still consider fundamental to SYP today were already happening then.

Adventure.

Residentials.

Outdoor learning.

Giving young people opportunities beyond their everyday experiences.

Different generations of young people and different people supporting them along the way...

But the same belief in what youth work can achieve. 💙

🛶💙 ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER SYP ADVENTURE!

Today, 13 of our young people are out canoeing! 🛶🌊

Getting outdoors, trying something different, building confidence, learning new skills and, most importantly, having loads of fun together. 💙

This is what youth work is all about — giving young people opportunities to experience, explore, challenge themselves and make memories.

We certainly know how to keep them busy at SYP! 😂💙

💙 SYP THROUGH THE YEARS | 1/10 – BEFORE WE WERE A CHARITY

We've recently celebrated 10 years of Sacriston Youth Project as a registered charity – but our story actually goes back much further.

One really important part of our history is this:

2016 wasn't the beginning of SYP.

It was the year an existing youth project became an independent charity.

Before then, SYP operated as a Durham County Council-run youth project, with our office originally based at Fyndoune and youth clubs running from The Fulforth Centre.

And we've been digging through the archives! 📸

We've found some brilliant photographs from 2013 and 2014, giving us a snapshot of just how much was already happening during those early DCC days...

💙 And, of course, regular youth clubs, activities and plenty of adventures!

All of this was happening while SYP was still a Durham County Council-run youth project, years before we became an independent charity.

The project grew through youth workers, young people, families, community organisations and local representatives – all contributing different skills, relationships, knowledge and support along the way.

Looking through these photographs more than a decade later, something really stands out.

Although SYP has changed enormously...

The fundamentals of what we do haven't.

Giving young people somewhere to belong.

Trusted adults in their lives.

Opportunities to challenge themselves.

Experiences beyond their everyday world.

And lots of fun along the way! 💙

After celebrating 10 years of Sacriston Youth Project as a registered charity, we've been digging through the archives... and we've realised there's quite a story to tell! 👀

Because while SYP officially became a charity in 2016, our story actually started years before that.

So over the next few weeks we're going to take you on a little journey through SYP Through the Years. 💙

We've found some brilliant old photos from SYP's early days, including young people taking part in our very first Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, a Weardale residential and a Girls Group trip to Edinburgh.

So before Chapter 1 even begins, here's a little throwback to SYP in July 2013 – proof that adventures, residentials, DofE and giving young people amazing experiences have been part of SYP for a VERY long time! 💙😂
