We take in animals from RSPCA Inspectors due to concerns involving cruelty, neglect, abandonment and injury. We care for cats, dogs and horses.

These animals are cared for and rehabilitated on site and then rehomed from our Centre in County Durham. The RSPCA Felledge Animal Centre is a safe haven which provides specialist treatment and rehabilitation to dogs, cats and horses who have suffered cruelty and neglect throughout the North East. We work to give unwanted and mistreated animals a second chance and find loving new homes for them. Our staff and volunteers not only work for the benefit of animals, but for local people too, through the promotion of free RSPCA services such as Pet Retreat and Home for Life. Our volunteer regional speakers also give a voice to the neglected animals we work with and promote responsible pet ownership to community groups. In addition to this we also organise events which aim to increase the profile of the RSPCA in the North East and also raise vital funds to continue our work against animal cruelty. If you would like further details about our future events or volunteering opportunities please contact us.

💙 Fostering can make all the difference… 🐾

Not every dog finds kennel life easy, and for some dogs, being in a home environment while they wait for their forever home can make a world of difference. 💕

Fostering gives dogs the chance to relax, feel safe and secure, and show their true personalities away from the stress of a kennel environment. It also helps us learn more about their individual needs, likes and quirks, so we can find them the perfect match. 🏡🐶

Our lovely Bolt is currently enjoying life in foster care because kennel life just wasn’t right for him. He’s getting the chance to enjoy the comforts of a home while he waits for what we hope will be his forever family. ❤️

But his search isn’t over just yet! 🐾 He is still looking for his special someone to fall in love with him and offer him the forever home he deserves.

Could you be the one he’s been waiting for? 🥹💙

If you think you could offer him his happily ever after, please find his application below 👇❤️

If you think you can help dogs like Bolt who do find kennel life stressful and can open up your home temporarily to a dog in need, please find our dog fostering application below 👇🐶🏡

🐾 Last Night’s Group Chat Notifications 📲🐶🐱

Last night’s group chat was full of photo spam… and we wouldn’t have it any other way! 🥹🤍 Here’s a little glimpse of some of our animals enjoying life in their temporary foster homes. 🏡

As you can see, our furry friends are making the most of these darker, colder nights, snuggled up warm and cosy with their foster carers, rather than spending them alone in a kennel. 🥰🐾

Foster homes make a world of difference to an animal’s welfare, comfort and happiness. Whether they’re part of an ongoing case investigation, getting ready for rehoming or simply waiting to find their forever home, being in a loving home environment means so much. 🤍

This is what fostering is all about — safety, comfort, love and a cosy place to call home, even if it’s only temporary. 🏡🐶🐱

A huge thank you to all our amazing foster carers for giving these animals the love and care they deserve. 🫶🏻

If you think you offer your home temporarily and make a huge difference to an animals welfare, please find our fostering applications below 👇🏡

Justice served, and second chances earned. 🐾❤️

We are relieved to share that the former owner of Anya and Mabel has been successfully prosecuted at Teesside Magistrates’ Court following an RSPCA investigation into the squalid conditions they were forced to endure.

Both dogs, along with two cats, were rescued from an environment heavily contaminated with waste where their basic needs simply weren’t being met.

Seeing where they are now makes every moment of rescue and rehabilitation worth it:

🐾 Mabel (a sweet Dobermann) proved to be an easy-going girl who bounced back quickly and headed off to her wonderful forever home in April!

🐾 Anya (a gentle Borzoi) arrived completely shut down and terrified of daily life. After months of patient rehabilitation, behavioural work, and dedicated love from our Felledge Animal Centre team, she has blossomed. We’re thrilled to say she has an amazing home lined up, complete with another Borzoi companion she already adores, and will be on her way very soon!

A massive thank you to our inspectors, veterinary partners, behavioural team, and supporters who make these transformations possible and of course, a big thank you to the new families for giving them the future they deserve.

🐾 PET FOOD APPEAL: Can you help keep local pets fed? 🐾

At RSPCA Felledge, we aren’t just caring for the animals here in our shelter, we’re also working hard in our local communities to help people keep their beloved pets at home, where they belong!

Right now, our Inspectorate is teaming up with local food banks to supply pet food to families who are struggling. At the same time, our own busy cattery is running very low on wet cat food!

We are making a huge appeal for donations to keep everyone fed, and would be so incredibly grateful for your support. ❤️

👉 WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW:

🐱 FOR OUR CATTERY:

WET CAT FOOD (we are running very low on this!)

🤝 FOR THE INSPECTORATE & COMMUNITY FOOD BANKS:

WET DOG FOOD 🐶

WET & DRY CAT FOOD 🐱

RABBIT FOOD (nuggets, muesli, or forage!) 🐰

Every single can, pouch, or bag you can donate will go directly to helping an animal in need, whether they’re waiting for their forever home with us or cuddled up with a family who just needs a helping hand.

📍 Where to donate: You can drop off your donations at the Centre (RSPCA Felledge, Beaney Lane, Chester le Street DH2 3BF) or at our collection bins in Asda Stanley, Asda Bishop Auckland and Morrisons Chester le Street!

From the bottom of our hearts (and paws!), thank you so much for your amazing kindness. Together, we can make sure no pet goes hungry! 🥣🐱🐶🐰
