The Petrus Community has been providing supported housing and related services to homeless people since 1972. We're a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. We provide residential and day support services for people in housing need throughout the Borough of Rochdale, including Rochdale South and Middleton. Petrus believes people should have access to safe, secure, quality housing. We exist to support a wide range of people in housing need and develop their skills, independence and choice. We have a strong commitment to actively involving the people who use our services in shaping how we work. www.petrus.org.uk

A huge thank you to B&Q Halifax for supporting Petrus and helping to transform our community allotment in Rochdale! 🌱

As part of B&Q's Community Days programme, a team of colleagues volunteered their time, skills and resources to refresh our Pier Allotment, including resurfacing two polytunnels, painting raised beds, and improving our storage area with new lighting and shelving.

The allotment is a vital space for our service users, volunteers and local community, supporting wellbeing, recovery and connection through nature.

Their incredible support has helped us rebuild an area damaged by anti-social behaviour and create a more accessible, wildlife-friendly growing space for everyone to enjoy.

🌿 Kim Evans, Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner at Petrus, said:

"We are so grateful to have had the team from B&Q support us by giving up their time to improve our space. They have transformed our community allotment, helping us rebuild one of the areas damaged by anti-social behaviour and refresh our raised beds with new paint. Their help will enable us to continue to support our service users in their recoveries whilst also promoting the benefits of being in nature and biodiversity to the community. A huge thank you to B&Q and their colleagues for making this happen."

As the seasons change, the challenges faced by people without a safe place to call home remain constant.

With your support, we can create safe, welcoming spaces where people feel seen, supported and able to rebuild their lives. Every contribution makes a difference:

- £5 could provide a vulnerable person with a hot meal every day for a week.

- £10 could provide a person with a hot shower, with toiletries, laundry facilities and clean underwear.

- £20 could provide a person with a mobile phone to maintain contact with support services and family members.

- £50 could provide all weather-clothing for two people to join nature-based wellbeing activities.

- £100 could fund a community outreach session to help connect people in need with our services.

No one should have to face winter without the essentials.

As temperatures begin to fall, we're urgently appealing for donations of warm winter clothing to support people experiencing homelessness and hardship across our community 💙

We're particularly in need of:
→ Scarves
→ Gloves
→ Hats
→ Coats
→ Warm socks

A simple donation could help someone stay warm, safe and protected during the coldest months of the year.

A huge thank you to McBride for their continued support of Petrus 💙

As a long-standing partner, McBride has been making a real difference to the people we support for many years.

Recently, we had the opportunity to speak with members of their team about the impact their ongoing support has on our services and the lives of those who access them.

We're also incredibly grateful that McBride has committed to donating essential cleaning products each month, including washing-up liquid, bleach and anti-bacterial cleaners.

This generous contribution of around 165 products every month will help us keep our accommodation and support services running safely and effectively for the people who need them most 🙌

Changing Lives has been shortlisted in the Breaking Barriers category at the Rochdale Diversity Awards 2026! 🏆

Delivered by Rochdale AFC Community Trust and Petrus, Changing Lives uses football to support people experiencing homelessness and difficult circumstances, helping participants build confidence, improve wellbeing and feel more connected to their community.

Since launching in January 2026, Changing Lives has supported 33 people through 28 football and engagement sessions, alongside specialist workshops, wellbeing support, free haircuts, competitive football opportunities and visits to Rochdale AFC fixtures.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially our participants, staff and partners 💙

It's great to see the programme recognised for the positive impact its having, helping people overcome barriers, build confidence and create new opportunities within our community.
