In mid-2022 we achieved syllabus recognition for our Aspiring Knights Historical Medieval Combat syllabus with the BMABA.

It took about 12 months from compiling the syllabus documents, lesson plans, learning outcomes, teaching aims and technical assessments to receiving the approval after double panel peer review.

Since then, we’ve used our syllabus to teach countless people who have walked through the doors and it forms the basis of all of our standardised lessons for the sport with a making focus on striking and a secondary focus on grappling.

Over the past 4 years we’ve continued to develop how we plan and teach which has meant we’ve worked on additions to expand the syllabus for armoured combat.

We’re happy to be able to say that after some further review and dialogue with the BMABA, our syllabus now has the addition of Judo for Buhurt in a structured and codified system of its own within our Aspiring Knights syllabus.

This means that the way we teach our Judo for Buhurt techniques is transparent, consistent and specific to armoured combat within our syllabus and ultimately our insured activities.

The adaptation never stops though and we’ve got more training and resources that we’re working on the background.

14. Judo for Buhurt - De Ashi Harai / De Ashi Barai

In this video we take a look at De Ashi Harai/Barai and how it might be applied in different stances and positions.

This one definitely takes more practice as there is a reliance on attacking a light leg, which involves either movement or loading to make the leg light.

It’s also worth noting that if you sweep hard enough to get one leg swept into the other, you’ve achieve Okuri Ashi Harai which would be even more impressive in armour.
