🦋 02/10/2026 🦋

Our usual Hidden Wounds session took a beautiful and different turn on this day as we welcomed fellow leaders of MHaPP as they joined us in celebrating the birthday of our amazing Founder and CEO Mama Folashade Alonge.

It was a lovely opportunity to pause from our usual peer support and recovery activities and celebrate the incredible woman behind De Butterfly CIC, a courageous survivor of domestic violence and Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), whose lived experiences birth De Butterfly CIC and have helped shape her passion for supporting and empowering women who have faced similar challenges.

The day was filled with love, laughter, joy, and togetherness, reminding us that healing is not only about sharing our struggles but also about creating beautiful memories, celebrating milestones, and supporting one another through life’s special moments. Thank you to everyone that joined us to celebrate 💜

Happy birthday to our wonderful Founder and CEO! Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to supporting women and families. May your new year be filled with greater blessings, strength, happiness, and continued success. 🥂

Another beautiful and empowering Belle2Pikin peer support and drop-in session at Manchester Settlement, Openshaw.

The Belle2Pikin session provided a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for mothers and expectant mothers to connect, share their experiences, and support one another emotionally. Through open conversations and peer-to-peer interactions, participants had the opportunity to express their feelings, discuss the challenges of motherhood and pregnancy, and learn from one another’s experiences.

The session encouraged mutual understanding, empathy, and a sense of belonging, reminding participants that they are not alone in their journeys. It also promoted emotional well-being, strengthened social connections, and encouraged women to seek support when needed.

We ended the session with food, drinks, music, dancing and lots of laughter, creating a joyful space for connection, friendship and community.
A beautiful reminder that motherhood is a journey best shared with others.

Because sometimes a woman doesn’t only need information, she needs a village where she feels safe enough to ask the questions she has been afraid to ask.

🌍💜🦋 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2026 🦋💜🌍

10 October 2026

Theme: “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.”

A Special Message from Princess Folashade Alonge, Founder & CEO, De Butterfly

Today, as we commemorate World Mental Health Day, I want to remind the world of one powerful truth:

Behind every emotional struggle is a human story. Behind every silence is a voice waiting to be heard. And behind every voice is the possibility of change.

For me, this year’s theme is not just a slogan. It speaks directly to my heart, my journey, and the very foundation upon which De Butterfly was built.

Over the years, I have sat with women who have survived unimaginable trauma …..women who have experienced female ge***al mutilation (FGM), domestic abuse, displacement, trafficking, poverty, discrimination, and the painful realities of seeking asylum.

I have listened to women whose tears spoke louder than words. Women who carried generations of cultural silence, shame, and emotional wounds. Women who were expected to remain strong even when they were falling apart inside.

Yet, I have also witnessed extraordinary courage, resilience, healing, and transformation.

These women are not just statistics. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, leaders, survivors, and powerful voices of change.

At De Butterfly, we believe that healing begins when people feel safe enough to speak, supported enough to be vulnerable, and valued enough to be heard.

Through our culturally sensitive, trauma-informed counselling, peer support, and community wellbeing programmes, we continue to create spaces where women are not judged by their experiences but recognised for their humanity, dignity, and strength.

But today, I want us to go further.

Listening is important, but listening without action is not enough.

We must move beyond inviting people to tell their stories and begin involving them in shaping the services, policies, and decisions that affect their lives.

We must challenge the stigma surrounding mental and emotional health, particularly within Black African communities, where cultural expectations and the pressure to appear strong can sometimes prevent people from seeking help.

We must recognise that lived experience is expertise, and those who have walked through pain often hold invaluable wisdom about what meaningful support should look like.

To every woman struggling silently today, I want to say:

💜 Your story matters.

💜 Your pain deserves compassion, not judgement.

💜 Your voice deserves to be heard.

💜 Seeking support is an act of courage, not weakness.

💜 Your past does not define your future.

And to our communities, professionals, policymakers, and leaders, my challenge is simple:

Do not just speak for us. Sit with us. Listen to us. Work with us. And make room for us at the decision-making table.

As we mark World Mental Health Day, let us build a world where emotional wellbeing is not a privilege, culturally appropriate support is accessible, and nobody has to suffer in silence.

At De Butterfly, we will continue turning hidden wounds into opportunities for healing, isolation into connection, and lived experiences into meaningful change.

Because every voice matters. Every story deserves dignity. And every woman deserves the opportunity to heal and thrive.

Happy World Mental Health Day! 🌍💜

Hidden Wounds – Healthy Relationship and Trust after Trauma 🦋

Another deeply emotional and powerful Hidden Wounds recovery session delivered by our in-house Psychotherapist focused on healthy relationships and rebuilding trust after trauma.

We explored what healthy and safe relationships look like. The women discussed the importance of respect, communication, honesty, boundaries, emotional safety and consistency in building healthy relationships.

We also explored how trauma can affect a person’s ability to trust others and recognise safety. Participants were encouraged to understand that trust does not have to be given immediately and that it is okay to take time, observe someone’s actions and set boundaries.

We provided a safe and supportive space for women to share their experiences, and explore ways of prioritising their safety and wellbeing. We also discussed the importance of rebuilding confidence, setting healthy boundaries, seeking support and taking steps towards a safer and positive future. There were tears, honesty and vulnerability….but also strength, compassion, understanding and peer-to-peer encouragement.

Every story mattered. Every voice was heard.

We encouraged ourselves to know that recovery is a personal journey and that moving forward does not mean forgetting what happened. It means finding support, regaining a sense of safety and taking each step at their own pace.

Sometimes healing begins with simply being heard. And sometimes it begins with finally realising, “I am not alone.” 💜

But at De Butterfly, difficult conversations don’t take away our joy!

We also had a feast 💃 We enjoyed delicious cultural food and plenty of snacks, music, dancing and lots of laughter. 💃🏾🥘
What a beautiful reminder that even during difficult seasons, there is still room for celebration, laughter, friendship and hope.

A heartfelt thank you to our Mama and Poverty Partnership MHaPP partners at Obado for coming to have 1-1s with some of our women to talk about taxes and debt issues. Your support and partnership mean so much to us. 💜

Alongside our group session, our women continued to have access to a safe space for connection, emotional support and practical guidance.

This is the De Butterfly way. 🦋

💜 Breaking the silence.
💜 Healing hidden wounds.
💜 Restoring confidence.
💜 Creating belonging.
💜 Celebrating life.
💜 Walking towards recovery—together.

At De Butterfly, women don’t have to choose between talking about pain and experiencing joy. There is space for both.

A safe space to be heard.
A community to belong to.
And hope to keep moving forward. 🦋💜

🦋23/09/26 | Belle2Pikin – East Manchester Hub🦋

Another beautiful and empowering Belle2Pikin peer support and drop-in session at Manchester Settlement, Openshaw.

This week was a relaxed and enjoyable chit-chat session where the women reflected on their perceptions of pregnancy and motherhood when they were younger.

We shared memories of our imaginations of motherhood and compared those expectations with our real-life experiences, we talked about some of the surprises and difficulties that came with becoming mothers. It was a lovely opportunity to laugh, connect and realise that many of our experiences are more similar than we sometimes think.

We ended the session with food, drinks, music, dancing and lots of laughter, creating a joyful space for connection, friendship and community.
