We did it! πŸ’ͺ After years of campaigning, the government has announced major reforms to council tax collection: liability order fees capped at Β£100, longer timelines before enforcement, and promised new statutory steps councils must take. This is what happens when we come together to stand up for those facing poverty. πŸ’š

What a great Life Skills session, looking at our overall health and wellbeing. We got creative making pinch pots from clay, potting up plants to take home, including 'Nature', 'Learn something new' and 'Community' in our day is positive for mental health. Other things to include could be 'Get active' and 'Help Others'...

The next 2 weeks we are delivering our Easter food parcels.
If you are able to add any extra Easter treats to your basket they would be appreciated, eg, hot cross buns, long life cakes and desserts, chocolate eggs.

We are also currently short of cereals and tinned vegetables.

We are aware that the government has stopped the financial support that children who receive free school meals were getting over the holidays, so many families will be struggling more to feed their children in the holiday period. So anything that makes a good family meal, eg pasta and sauces, tinned vegetables...

Thank you for your support.

Henley CAP Debt Centre now covers Sonning Common area.
If you are struggling with any level of debt, this service is free and you'll have a personal coach to support you out of debt. There is no need to feel shame or embarrassment - around 1/3 of people are struggling this much with the current cost of living and carrying debts.

Our shelves are looking very bare at the moment. We are aware that the Easter Holidays are coming up, and the government has stopped the additional vouchers that low-income families used to receive to cover the holiday period when they are not getting school meals provided.

If you are able to add something to your shop this week, we would particularly appreciate:
Cereal
porridge oats
tinned vegetables
long life milk - including dairy alternatives
tinned spaghetti
baking products
long-life desserts / cakes / rice pudding
cleaning products

Also, and sturdy plastic carrier bags you may have at home that you don't need.

Thank you for your support.

We really enjoyed our cooking session today, trying simple, healthy & budget friendly recipes that can be made in the air fryer. A lot of the ingredients are those the clients would receive in their emergency food parcels, but don't always know what to do with.
Unfortunately we ate the chocolate chip cookies too quickly to take a photo!
My favourite was the chickpea popcorn. My kids love it!

Next week, Mar 9-14th, is Food Waste Action Week. This doesn't only make sense for your wallet and your time, but also the planet. Lets make sure we use what food we buy. Don't let it go off in the cupboard/fridge.
Top tips - before you shop...
- check the cupboards so you don't over buy
- menu plan, so you know you'll use whatever you buy
- only buy what you'll use - no bulk offers (which often only save a few pence anyway)
- make a list on the side of the freezer so you know what's in there
- use up leftovers and any random food in a meal before going to buy fresh
