Last night the unit was incredibly proud to host Naval Base Commander (Devonport), Commodore Jane Roe ADC for an informal visit to TS GOLDEN HIND.

Cdre Roe is no stranger to Sea Cadet activity and as our new ‘landlord’ it was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of cadet training offered both locally and nationally. Perhaps more uniquely we were able to offer an insight into the RM Cadet syllabus.

Cdre Row was also kind enough to present a number of awards to our ships company. We are incredibly grateful to the Commodore and HM Naval Base Devonport for there ongoing support to Plymouth (Drake).

We’re lucky enough to boat in one of the best parts of the country and when the weather is as good as this, where else would we be!

Our Supervised Coxswain (Row 3) qualified crews are currently working towards there full coxswain qualifications.

Our senior cadets are working towards achieving there BR Row 3 (formally Sup Cox) and Coxswain qualifications. These qualifications enable cadets to take charge of a trinity rowing craft by demonstrating the ability to complete a number of theory and practical sessions.

In addition to the confidence cadets gain in these qualifications it also keeps them active which is so important for young people.

The Sea Cadets, Army Cadets UK, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, and Cadets In Schools help to give young people a real advantage in education and work.

A 2021 study by the University of Northampton found that Cadets develop key communication, teamwork and leadership skills and become more confident and resilient, setting them up for future success.

And under a new ‘30 by 30’ campaign launched last year, the Government has ambitious plans to expand Cadet opportunities for a new generation of young people.
