We're an essential charity for the south west and our key aims are to increase the awareness of bowel cancer and symptoms, train health professionals and fund local research. Bowel Cancer West is a UK charity which aims to improve the survivability rates of bowel cancer across communities in the south-west of England. One in three people in the West Country knows someone with bowel cancer and the
region is at particularly high risk with 91% of people (recently polled by us) admitting their awareness of symptoms is ‘average’ or ‘poor’. We have a simple message: that early diagnosis of bowel cancer can save your life: "If you experience symptoms such as bleeding from the bottom, abdominal pain or bloating, weight loss or a change in bowel habits- please don’t sit on it, contact your GP immediately." The funds we raise are committed to three areas: (1) Advanced training of medical practitioners (GP’s and nurses) (2) Awareness of symptoms and testing (3) Research into causes and cures
Our trustees are drawn from the medical profession and from a wider demographic who have been affected directly with this difficult disease. If enough people support our cause, we believe we can make a significant impact on mortality rates across the region.
