A huge thank you to all the University of Plymouth students who joined us in Devonport for a site tour of Devonport Square and the Column, led by Francesca Hawkesworth, ahead of their competition submissions, exploring the future of this space as part of the developing Devonport Creative Quarter. 🌿
It was great to welcome so many emerging designers, architects, and creative thinkers to experience and better understand the spaces between Devonport Guildhall and the Market Hall, and to learn more about the ambition behind the project and the future potential of Devonport's public realm.
Working with partners, Real Ideas is helping shape a growing creative cluster in Devonport, where culture, enterprise, and innovation support long-term community and economic growth.
We were also joined by Ed Whitelaw from our Nature & Neighbourhoods team, who shared insights into local Green Communities plans and initiatives, highlighting how environmental thinking and community-led approaches are helping shape Devonport's future.
A special thank you to the lecturers at the University of Plymouth for creating this engaging opportunity in collaboration with Real Ideas, connecting students with a live brief and real-world challenges.
We're excited to see how students respond to the challenge: imagining adaptable, inclusive, and creative interventions that bring new life, opportunity, and activity to these important civic spaces.
We look forward to seeing the ideas that emerge over the coming weeks.
