A huge thank you to all the University of Plymouth students who joined us in Devonport for a site tour of Devonport Square and the Column, led by Francesca Hawkesworth, ahead of their competition submissions, exploring the future of this space as part of the developing Devonport Creative Quarter. 🌿

It was great to welcome so many emerging designers, architects, and creative thinkers to experience and better understand the spaces between Devonport Guildhall and the Market Hall, and to learn more about the ambition behind the project and the future potential of Devonport's public realm.

Working with partners, Real Ideas is helping shape a growing creative cluster in Devonport, where culture, enterprise, and innovation support long-term community and economic growth.

We were also joined by Ed Whitelaw from our Nature & Neighbourhoods team, who shared insights into local Green Communities plans and initiatives, highlighting how environmental thinking and community-led approaches are helping shape Devonport's future.

A special thank you to the lecturers at the University of Plymouth for creating this engaging opportunity in collaboration with Real Ideas, connecting students with a live brief and real-world challenges.

We're excited to see how students respond to the challenge: imagining adaptable, inclusive, and creative interventions that bring new life, opportunity, and activity to these important civic spaces.

We look forward to seeing the ideas that emerge over the coming weeks.

Last night (3rd June), our Nature & Neighbourhoods team welcomed the community to Sherford Country Park: Making the Most of our Green Spaces event — an inspiring evening focused on the future of land stewardship 🌿

Hosted by Sherford Community Trust, the event explored innovative approaches to caring for shared green spaces, with thought-provoking contributions from guest speakers including Rob Haward (Riverford) and and Jez McDermott, General Manager, and Federico Quintana Ghittoni, Lead Ranger at Saltram House (Saltram - National Trust).

Alongside engaging discussions, attendees helped shape the future of Sherford by voting on names for upcoming green spaces and connecting through a range of community stalls.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such an important conversation about creating lasting benefits for both people and nature. 🌱

From exploring Matt’s Hybrid Print R&D Lab to learning about his PhD research into digital fabrication and heritage crafts, it was an inspiring evening. The highlight? Getting hands-on with a letterpress activity on the Albion Press 🖨️

A huge thank you to Matt for sharing his practice and supporting the residency with his analogue-to-digital ‘How To’ guide ahead of our May showcase. The Creative Residence had a fantastic time connecting, learning, and creating together! 🎉
