Peterborough & District Family History Society

Peterborough & District Family History Society P&DFHS is a small, friendly Family History Society based in Peterborough, England. Whether you live near or far, why not join us?

We love everything 'Family History' and enjoy assisting and supporting others in their research. The Peterborough and District Family History Society was formed in 1980 to maintain an association of those interested in the study of Family History, Genealogical Studies, Local History and Heraldry. It promotes the preservation of documents, monuments and other material of special interest to Family

Historians. It aims to transcribe and index relevant documents and monumental inscriptions. The geographical area of interest is centred on the old Soke of Peterborough, originally in north-east Northamptonshire but now in north-west Cambridgeshire. It is the Society’s aim to hold regular monthly meetings and we have a resident 'expert' who can help with most queries. Other aims are to actively promote family history, publish a quarterly journal and make available the Society’s archival collection to both members and non-members alike. The Society is a member of the Federation of Family History Societies; the East Anglian Group and the Peterborough Forum Group.

The society is always looking for volunteers. If you fancy helping please get in touch.

The society is always looking for volunteers. If you fancy helping please get in touch.

Our family history volunteers love what they do. Have you thought about giving some time to help. You can even volunteer from afar

“As an overseas member of the Hampshire Genealogical Society, volunteering with transcribing records for inclusion on the HGS website continues to make me feel more included in the Society, making a small contribution to the organization from afar.

A benefit is that whilst transcribing, there is always the possibility of discovering an ancestor amongst the records too!”
