Come along this Saturday 17 October for our SNP Conference fringe event: Heat, Fire, Flood - Is Scotland ready for what comes next?

Join Scottish Environment LINK, Marine Conservation Society and Rewilding Britain for a discussion on how Scotland can prepare for a changing climate.

We’ll explore how to build resilience across our coasts, seas and food systems, and what needs to change to turn existing commitments on climate adaptation and nature restoration into action.

We’re pleased to be joined by Gillian Martin MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Rural Affairs, alongside experts from across the environment and farming sectors.

We are seeking an Events Officer on a short-term contract to help deliver a major new conference for the nature sector in Scotland.

We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive candidate with excellent organisational skills, experience of coordinating events and a genuine commitment to inclsuion.

You do not need to have experience in the environmental sector, and we particularly welcome applications from people whose backgrounds and perspectives are currently under-represented in our sector.

The Scottish Government's Marine Directorate is running a series of drop-in sessions for its long-awaited public consultation on proposed fisheries management measures for Scottish inshore marine protected areas and proposed priority marine features management areas, launched last month and open until 18 January 2027.

This is your chance to have your say on how we manage Scotland’s marine environment!

We strongly encourage everyone who can to attend, ask questions, and share local knowledge.

Common Lizards play an important role in maintaining a balanced ecosystem.

They feed on a variety of invertebrates, including insects and spiders, and can be found across many habitats, including heathland, moorland, woodland, and grassland.

They are unusual among reptiles because they incubate their eggs inside their bodies rather than laying them!

Their is Katie Hagmann MSP in collaboration with Froglife.

Today Jessica Jones, vice-convenor of LINK's marine group, Calum Duncan from Marine Conservation Society and other Scottish Environment LINK members joined a panel of witnesses to give evidence to the Rural Affairs Committee about the key priorities for marine and fisheries in this parliamentary session.

Members highlighted the poor state of the marine environment, which is continuing to decline, and the need for more holistic and more inclusive management frameworks to ensure win-wins for the environment and fishing and coastal communities.

Having well-managed marine protected areas (MPAs) is just one solution that needs to be embedded in much wider environmental and industry considerations that need to be supported by better, more inclusive policy frameworks and resourcing.

Those were the words of the UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to global foreign ministers last week, as he shared findings from a national security assessment warning of the risks posed by climate change and nature loss.

Miliband said that the coming El Niño (a natural climate event which drives up global temperatures) could intensify climate shocks, threatening food and water security and putting communities and economies under increasing pressure.

Against that threat, preparedness is everything – and this week, Scotland has a chance to get serious about it.

On Wednesday, MSPs will gather at Holyrood to debate how Scotland can build resilience to wildfire, drought, flooding and other climate shocks – including the role nature recovery can play.

We’ll be outside Parliament from 3–5pm before the debate gets underway, making sure the urgency of preparing for climate shocks is visible outside as well as inside Holyrood.

Kelp forests play a vital role in supporting healthy marine ecosystems 🌊

Their presence creates a complex habitat and a shaded canopy that provide homes, protection, and feeding areas for many animals, including fish, crabs, lobsters, starfish, seabirds and seals.
They can also support the fishing industry, as kelp beds can act as nursery grounds for spawning fish.

The for Kelp forests is Sanne Dijkstra-Downie MSP, in collaboration with Marine Conservation Society and Scottish Wildlife Trust
