πŸ’› What someone might need to hear today

You don't have to have reached before asking for help.

You don't have to wait until the cupboards are completely bare.

You don't have to have all the answers, or know exactly what to say.

And you certainly don't have to carry it all on your own.

If life feels heavy right now, if the sums aren't adding up, if you're feeling anxious about how you'll get through the week ahead, please know this:

You are welcome here.

At Perth & Kinross Foodbank, we know that it takes to ask for support. We know that crossing our threshold for the first time can feel daunting.

But if you find that , you'll be met with , and . Not judgement. Not shame. Just people who care and who want to help.

πŸ“¦ sessions run:
Tuesday – Friday
πŸ•› 12:00–16:00

If you're unsure how to access a parcel, details of our can be found in the post below, or simply get in touch and we'll help point you in the right direction.

You don't need to do alone.

There's a whole standing alongside you.

We're here.

πŸ’™ Reflection | Volunteers' Week

Normally, by Friday afternoon we're looking forward to the weekend ahead.

I think it's fair to say we arrived at Friday this week with not much left in the tank.

As a foodbank, we like to think we're prepared for whatever the week might throw at us. We have , , and arrangements.

What we weren't quite prepared for was our first week of June involving leaky roofs, buckets and multiple trips up ladders to investigate what exactly was going on above the ceiling tiles. πŸͺ£πŸ’§πŸ˜‚

But somehow, we've made it to Friday in one piece.

And that's where this week's truth comes in- when things go wrong, people matter most.

This week has been Volunteers' Week, a chance to # the people who give their time, energy and skills to causes they care about.

For us, that's particularly important because Perth & Kinross Foodbank simply wouldn't function without our .

This week, as is the case every week, they have put in a shift - although perhaps not always in the ways they expected.

When the roof started misbehaving, nobody said, "Actually, I think I'll give this one a miss."

Instead, they said:

"I'll be there." πŸ‘

"What do you need me to do?" πŸ’ͺ

"How can I help?" ❓

And help they did.

This week our have:

πŸ“¦ Weighed in and sorted
πŸ’š Welcomed clients through our doors
πŸ›’ Packed
β˜• Offered reassurance and conversation
πŸ”— Signposted people to support
🚚 Unloaded a huge stock order
πŸͺœ Held ladders while ceiling tiles came down
πŸͺ£ Held buckets while excess water was emptied
πŸ“¦ Pre-packed parcels while we operated a restricted service
πŸͺ‘ Moved furniture
πŸ“Έ And even posed for the odd photo or two

Not bad for a week's work!

If there's one thing we're good at in the , it's adapting to whatever appears in front of us and finding in the middle of the madness.

And boy, have we laughed this week 🀣

Sometimes when life catches you off guard, laughter is one of the most valuable tools you've got.

Just look at these photos πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

That's .

That's .

That's people choosing to show up for one another.

We're incredibly lucky.

Our people are our greatest asset.

I'd also like to give a shout out to our , who their time in a slightly different way. There have been more than a few phone calls this week involving a slightly panicked Foodbank Manager and questions about water damage - for taking those calls and helping us navigate the unexpected πŸ™

And to our Thursday volunteer team - we haven't forgotten about you! While we've managed to share photos from some of our other teams this week, Thursday arrived at exactly the point where we were slightly distracted by buckets, leaks and general chaos. Please know you are every bit as valued and appreciated as everyone else. We'll make sure to capture those smiling faces next week πŸ“Έ

So, to every member of our who dons a green lanyard, puts on a fleece and gets stuck in:

.

For everything you do.

For every parcel packed.

For every donation sorted.

For every conversation had.

For every challenge embraced.

And for every moment of shown.

From the bottom of our hearts, πŸ’š

Before we wrap up for the week, switch off and recharge, a little heads up that next week's might look a bit different. I'll be heading off on an adventure with the Trussell team and colleagues from across the UK, so our posts may be a little quieter and a little more focused on the people we meet, what we learn and the journey along the way πŸš„

And finally, one small request from everyone at York Place:

Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for a dry weekend and plenty of sunshine β˜€οΈ

The carpet cleaner, ladders and buckets are all currently on standby.

Happy Volunteers' Week!

Love from ❀️

πŸ’™ | Service Update

A wee update from York Place!

We're continuing to operate a little differently today as we navigate our way around buckets and the occasional puddle πŸ˜…πŸͺ£

While we're very much open and ready to support people, we're missing one of our favourite parts of the Perth & Kinross Foodbank experience at the moment - the opportunity to sit down, have a blether and catch up properly.

It's something you've told us you value too.

We love hearing how you're getting on, what's happening in your own wee part of the world, and having the time and space to connect β˜•

We're keeping everything crossed that normal service will resume early next week, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back round the tables again.

In the meantime, if you can bear with us for a little longer, we'd be very grateful πŸ’š

A huge shout out to our fantastic Friday staff and team who are continuing to keep the show on the road and support people with , flexibility and despite the slightly unusual surroundings πŸ‘

Together - even amongst buckets and a bit of creative problem solving - remains our favourite place to be πŸ’š

Happy , !

As it's , we wanted to take a moment to something we're incredibly proud of.

Perth & Kinross Foodbank is now displaying one of Perthshire Pride's new stickers 🌈

The sticker is simple, but the message behind it is powerful:

You belong here.
You're supported.
You're safe.

At Perth & Kinross Foodbank, we meet people from all walks of life and all corners of our . Different backgrounds. Different experiences. Different journeys.

What connects them is not who they are, but that at a particular moment in time they need support.

We believe everyone deserves to be treated with , and .

Whether you are visiting us for the first time, your time, dropping off , attending a meeting or simply popping in for a chat, our aim is always the same:

To create a space where people feel welcomed, heard and valued.

We're grateful to Perthshire Pride and their partners for developing this initiative and helping to build a growing network of visible and across Perth and Kinross.

Because aren't just about buildings. They're about people. They're about community.

And they're about making sure nobody feels they have to face difficult times alone.

This , and every month, everyone is welcome here πŸ’š

Together is our favourite place to be.

✨ Launching Today Perthshire Pride New β€˜Safe Place’ Stickers ✨🌈

Today, on , we’re proud to share something meaningful we’ve been working on with Perth and Kinross Council, a small symbol with a big purpose.

We’re introducing our brand‑new β€˜Safe Place’ rainbow stickers, created to highlight local businesses and venues where LGBT+ people can feel welcomed, respected and safe in everyday life.

From today, we’ll begin reaching out to businesses across Perth and Kinross to invite them to take part. These stickers may be simple, but the message behind them is powerful:
You belong here. You’re supported. You’re safe.

As a community‑led organisation, we know how important visible support can be. Creating safe spaces isn’t just about buildings, it’s about people, kindness, and knowing you’re not alone.

Councillor Peter Barrett, Equalities Lead for Perth & Kinross Council, shared:

β€œWe’re pleased to support Perthshire Pride with this initiative to help members of the LGBT+ community know where the β€˜Safe Places’ are locally. Partnership working with organisations like Perthshire Pride and Rainbow Heartlands LGBT+ Perth and Kinross is a key part of our commitment to equality and fairness.”

We’re excited to see these stickers appear across our city and beyond, building a growing network of inclusion and solidarity.

If you’re a business who’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. πŸŒˆπŸ’›

Togetherness & Thanks πŸ’™β˜”οΈ

I'm not sure we could have found a clearer demonstration of and than we did today.

The day started with our regular stock delivery 🚚🚚

Two vans packed to the rafters with core parcel staples. Cue the usual 20-30 minutes of organised chaos as the decanted, lifted, stacked and stored everything safely away πŸ“¦πŸ’ͺ

No gym required for anyone involved today!

And then, just as the warehouse were preparing to head home, we had to pivot...

The leaky roof made an unwelcome return 🌧️πŸͺ£

Before we knew it, I was up a ladder, volunteers were strategically positioned with buckets, and we were trying our best to stay one step ahead of the water making its way through the ceiling tiles.

A special mention goes to Pete, who may have received a shower he hadn't quite bargained for! πŸšΏπŸ˜‚

From there, the team simply adapted.

Plans changed. Spaces changed. Routines changed.

But what didn't change was the commitment to making sure people could still access support.

A huge to Moira, Kirsten and Lynn-Marie for going with the flow (quite literally) and helping us find ways to maintain service continuity πŸ’™

And thank you to Brian and Karen, who kept moving so that people could continue receiving the support they needed πŸ“¦πŸ€

Sometimes it takes a village.

Today was one of those days.

When people ask what makes Perth & Kinross Foodbank a special place to work and volunteer, the answer is simple: it's the people.

The who step forward without being asked.
The staff who adapt when circumstances change.
The to muck in, solve problems and support one another.

Whether it's Volunteers' Week or any of the other 51 weeks of the year, we never take that for granted.

To everyone who helped keep our wee foodbank functioning today: ❀️

- even amongst drips, buckets and puddles - is still our favourite place to be.

⚠️ Service Update ⚠️

Good afternoon everyone.

Unfortunately, we have a leak in part of our York Place HQ. For health and safety reasons, our service may look a little different today while we work around the affected area and keep everyone safe.

Perth & Kinross Foodbank remains OPEN and our team will continue to provide support as normal. However, there may be some minor changes to how we welcome and serve visitors, and we would appreciate your patience and understanding if things take a little longer than usual.

A huge to our and who are already adapting to the situation and making sure support continues for people across Perth and Kinross.

As always, if you have any questions, please get in touch.

Thank you for bearing with us while we navigate a slightly soggy day! β˜”

Wednesday's πŸ“Š Insight & Learning

Sometimes the numbers stop us in our tracks.

Between January and May 2020, at the height of the , Perth & Kinross Foodbank provided emergency food support to 3,024 people.

Between January and May 2026, we supported 3,568 people.

That's an increase of 18%.

It's a statistic that challenges assumptions. For many people, the feels like a distant memory. Yet the need for support in our remains higher today than it was during those uncertain months.

Of course, Perth & Kinross Foodbank has changed too. Since 2020, we've moved into more welcoming premises, strengthened relationships with , increased our visibility within the and worked hard to create a space where people feel comfortable asking for help.

But when we look beyond the headline figures, a consistent picture emerges.

Our recent client survey identified the , waiting for money, and as the biggest challenges facing households. Our Navigator is seeing people running out of money before payday, struggling with , navigating benefit delays and facing difficult choices about how to make income stretch further.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family, a story.

Today's insight is simple:

Poverty didn't end when the pandemic did.

And neither did the need for communities to stand together.

πŸ’š Together is our favourite place to be.

Insight & Learning πŸ’‘What are we noticing?

Behind every statistic is a person.

In May, Perth & Kinross Foodbank provided
334 emergency food parcels πŸ₯«
supporting 466 adults and 222 children πŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ§”πŸ‘Ά
a total of 688 people across our .

We also welcomed 55 households referred to us for the first time.

The data tells us that demand remains high. continue to be the biggest driver of , alongside , delays in income, and .

But today, during , we're reflecting on another important insight.

Behind every parcel is a .

The food doesn't sort itself. The shelves don't stock themselves. The parcels don't pack themselves.

Every Wednesday, our and turn up with warmth, commitment and a willingness to help. Together, they transform into practical support for people facing .

The numbers help us understand the scale of need.

Our remind us of the scale of community .

A huge to today's teams - warehouse and front of hours - and to every who gives their time, skills and compassion throughout the year.

Because behind every parcel is a person.

And behind every response are Perth & Kinross Foodbank

Volunteers' Week πŸ’› | Going the extra mile

Over recent weeks, pupils from Morrison's Academy Junior and Senior Schools have been taking part in their in support of Perth & Kinross Foodbank.

Miles have been walked.
Blisters have been earned.
And with temperatures soaring in recent days, determination has certainly been tested.

Yet they kept going.

Not for themselves, but to support people in our experiencing .

We are incredibly grateful to every pupil, member of staff, parent, supporter and who has helped make this challenge such a success.

The total continues to grow, but what stands out most is the spirit behind it.

.
.
.
.

The to put one foot in front of the other, knowing that every mile travelled will help make a difference for someone else.

That feels especially fitting during , where we people who choose to give their time, talents and energy for the .

In a couple of weeks, we'll have the privilege of visiting Morrison's Academy to share our Foodbank story, thank everyone properly for their incredible efforts, and explain the difference their support will make to people and families across Perth & Kinross.

Until then, from all of us at Perth & Kinross Foodbank:

Thank you.

You should be enormously proud of what you have achieved. πŸ’›

Volunteers' Week πŸ’› | The people behind the parcels

When people think about , they often think about food.

The tins on the shelves.
The parcels heading out the door.
The arriving at the warehouse.

But what makes Perth & Kinross Foodbank special is the people.

The people behind the .
The people behind the .
The people behind the .

Pictured here are some of our Tuesday afternoon - the who greet clients, listen without judgement, work through packing lists, offer reassurance and help create the calm, supportive environment we strive to provide every day.

They bring far more than their time.

They bring .
They bring .
They bring .
They bring .
And they bring a genuine .

Every week they show up, never quite knowing what the afternoon will bring. Yet somehow they always rise to the challenge with kindness, care and good humour.

This , we're the people at the very heart of our .

The people behind the parcels.
The people behind the conversations.
The people behind the difference.

And what a wonderful group they are ✨
