"Nearly 900 years of tradition, a document from 1658, and 90 years in our building—our AGM celebrated the past and looked boldly to the future."
On 3rd September, the Brethren of Lodge Scoon & Perth, No. 3 attended the Lodge’s Annual General Meeting—our first meeting in the Masonic Temple since becoming tenants following the sale of our historic premises. Entry was via the rear door on Blackfriars Street, rather than the main entrance on Atholl Crescent, marking a small but symbolic shift as we begin this new chapter in the Lodge’s long history.
For over 90 years, the Lodge has met in its historic building. In June 2025, the premises were sold, but by the courtesy of the new owner—who is converting the entire property, including the 1795 Georgian townhouse and the 1930s Temple at the rear, into a domestic residence—we continue to meet in the Temple itself, preserving our connection to a space rich in Masonic history.
On entering the building, the Brethren noted subtle changes to the corridor leading to the Temple, including new carpeting, and to the two rooms of the main house that we still have access to, while the Temple itself remained unchanged—a fitting reminder of continuity amid change.
During the AGM, the Master of the Lodge, Bro. Ewan W. Reid, emphasised that this is not an end, but a bold new beginning. He encouraged all Brethren to contribute ideas, energy, and enthusiasm as we shape the next chapter of Lodge life, planning meetings, activities, and fellowship to ensure that joy, camaraderie, and learning remain at the heart of our Lodge.
Following the meeting, the Brethren retired to the King James Pub on Kinnoull Street, just a stone’s throw from the rear door of the premises, for some harmony, as the Lodge Refectory is now the drawing room of the new owner. It was a change, yes, but an enjoyable opportunity to relax and chat in an informal setting with our Brethren, continuing the fellowship that lies at the heart of our Lodge.
We are grateful to all who attended and contributed to this landmark gathering. Together, we look forward to a season of engagement, growth, and fellowship, honoring our past while embracing the future.
