📣 Calling all young string players from the south west!

Our thriving outreach and education programme brings outstanding musical opportunities to young people and communities in Cornwall each year - and we can now announce booking is open for the Inspiring Young Musicians chamber music course, on 3-6 July.

Join us to discover the joy of chamber music and study with exceptional musicians from IMS, based in the historic and beautiful Lavethan House, near Bodmin

This residential course is open to string players from the south west, with some additional places for pianists and wind players aged 13-19, approximately grade 7 or above.

A busy day today taking some instruments for repair and collecting this beautiful violin which has been donated to the Radford Trust instrument library.

Do you know a young musician in Cornwall between grade 3 and 6 standard that maybe can't afford to buy an intermediate instrument? They could loan this one for free for up to 3 years. Get in touch! [email protected] 🎻

We're delighted to announce the Nicky Spence Scholarship for Vocal Studies students 🎉

A remarkable £50,000 has been raised, thanks to the incredible generosity of a number of donors - brought together through the drive, passion and initiative of alumnus Nicky Spence - tenor OBE.

Nicky said: “I am really happy that my involvement in the School will give a talented group of singers from a lower socio-economic background the opportunity to flourish in the environment which Guildhall creates so uniquely. My own upbringing never foretold success and I would really like to help establish more state school representation on our stages.”

Nicky Spence studied at Guildhall School between 2001-09 and is an Alumni Ambassador and Fellow of the School, establishing himself as one of the UK's most acclaimed singers, receiving critical praise and international recognition for his performances as a tenor for The Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Opéra de Paris and Berlin State Opera and more.

The new scholarship will be offered to singers who have been educated in UK state schools and would not otherwise have the financial means to accept an offer at the School. The first Scholar is due to begin their studies in September 2025.
